Alright, so with any sort of luck, pretty soon i will be getting a job. Once i get settled in, get used to bills and stuff, i'm gonna start hunting. This is what has been running through my head: (note that i'm disabled and cant use a M/T, so i have to have an auto)
Get a used/junkyard/whatever f22a6
h23 im (I was unclear, does this have secondary runners?)
s2000 throttle body
1g dsm manifold/20g turbo (i know some dsm guys who say they're great)
bunch of charge piping (pieced together from random mandrel bends and such
catch can/breather and pcv removal (i would need this right?)
fmic of some sort, idk ill ask my friend where he got his at for his 2g
1g dsm bov (how much boost would it be good for?)
H23 transmission (didnt some of these/all of these come with an lsd, and if so/not can i get it/what models would i want? Would the tcu be a direct swap?)
giant tranny cooler
modded torque converter (would i even need it? I'd probably send it to level 10)
dsm injectors/whatever else would be good? Would i want a new fuel pump/regulator as well?
would i want to/need to swap to a mt radiator, or civic radiator or something if i had a seperate tranny cooler?
different ecu? the haltech sounds cool, but is expensive, and would it really be worth the results over getting a chipped p12 or something? (i hope i was right about that)
good set of gauges (boost/oil/ whatever else i'd want)
new motor mounts (mine shake at idle sometimes, and occasionally when backing up)
cam (does bisi make a turbo cam?)
Now i'd plan on getting the motor rebuilt, top and bottom with whatever would be good. However much it'd be recommended/wanted to bore or stroke id want to do. I'd get the head ported/polished as well as the throttle body/intake manifold. Basically the only real criteria i'm gonna want for this is gonna be
-streetable, as this will be my only car
-reasonably reliable, as per above
From what i hear, electronic boost controllers arent real reliable, so i'd run a manual or something, would it be plausible to just dial it down for daily driving stuff, and then when i want to cook crank it back up?
I know that this wont be cheap, and i plan on doing as much of it that is possible to be done myself. In the next few months, my friend is supposed to be getting a house, so i should be able to pick up a motor and keep it over there while i work on it. I obviously wont be buying everything at once, because i know that it will take a lot of time and effort. But the plan is to work on it a little at a time, and eventually get it to the point where i can go over and spend a day swapping a new motor in and hopefully having a decent basemap to go get it tuned.
I really respect all of you guys here who know much more about this than i do, and i'd like to know what you guys think, if there's other things i'd want or need to do. I dont really want to cut a ton of corners, i want the build to be pretty solid when i'm done. I know i put a lot of questions in there, but i'd appreciate anything you guys would have to add/correct/comment on. If i missed anything, or if there are other considerations i missed, let me know.
Also, what sort of power would be safe on a street engine? (safe meaning that it wont explode randomly)
ninja edit #2
What would be better to run, internal or external wastegate? How does that work if the turbo already has internal?
