Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    Newbie

Alright don't knock me for this post, this is my first one!

    I've got a 1991 Honda Accord SE 2.2L 140HP (180K miles)(F22A4, I think) Automatic Tranny

    - Unknown Exhaust
    - Unknown Intake (It says NOXOS on the Filter)
    - Retarded Exterior Mods - Clear Tails, Blue Signal Lights, etc.
    - Body is still clean no accidents

I have no idea what type of power my car's putting out but it's loud as F...! The cars got an exhaust with an 3.5" diameter and a short ram intake. It's embarrassing to have a car this loud and get smoked by almost every car that pulls up next to me. So I need some help cause I'm on the east coast so "Pimp My Ride" ain't stopping by anytime soon!

    1. I want to make the car silent without losing any Power?

    2. Is it worth it to invest in a 13 yr. old engine?

    3. What can i do to get rid of the sound, lose the intake, change the ehaust, etc.???

    4. These are the Future mods I'm thinking of:
    a. Magnafold Cat-Back 156987 Exxhaust
    b. AEM Cold Air Intake
    c. Red/Clear Tails
    d. 17" Rims

BUT, would it be worth it to do these mods on an F22 with 180K miles???

If I have the money this is what I really want:
    JDM H22 Swap w/220 HP
    AEM INTAKE
    RSR Exhaust
    and maybe a TURBO

I know i should just wait for the swap but i won't get the money till next year. Right now what can i do about the sound besides bringing everything back to stock????

Yes it's worth it if you think it is. I know i think its worth it.

    3. What can i do to get rid of the sound, lose the intake, change the ehaust, etc.???

Sound im guessing is the exahust get rid of it and get a nice apexi worldsport exahust its very silent and will get you the most hp

BUT, would it be worth it to do these mods on an F22 with 180K miles???

In my opinion yeah. My car has 281,XXX and im still going with all my mods

H22a would be sweet. Where are you located?

I'm located in NYC - they aren't that strict in the city but once i go into rural area like upstate I get tickets like crazy. I average 4 tickets each time a cop stops me, the tail lights/signal lights/lamp lights, and the exhaust!

So you think it's just the exhaust thats makin the noise, what about the in take??

intakes do make a lot of noise but its more of a higher rpm thing. the exhaust obviously makes noise all the time. if its extremely loud like louder than a normal performace exhaust should be check to see if like the cat is hallowed out or if there is none or if its strait pipe through some of it or something. check for holes in the exhaust too.

3.5 INCH EXHAUST PIPING?! I hope it wasn't you that did that to your car. You'd be better off running open headers.

i think the muffler is that size not the piping...or else i'd completely understand why he is dog slow lmao
Knowledge is power...in EVERY sense of the word

              Slow as a Dog

lol, DOG slow is not the word, haha! 3.5" at the Tip of the tail pipe, not sure what type or how wide the piping.

What would you recommend, what you think about the Maganaflow Cat-back? The Apexi only comes with the muffler but i wanna redo the entire piping. I was looking at a Tsudo Cat-back Exhaust but it's dirt cheap and it prolly won't last so I'm gonna upgrade to the Magnaflow, or should i just say F... it and get the RSR Exhuast......

Throw some suggestions out! I wanna get rid of the Intake, will a cold air intake give me a better sound?

your 91 SE auto (we have a silver one) has a F22a6 engine code...you are incorrect in saying it's a F22a4

ya be happy! u can join the f22a6 club with us EX'ers. did i just say EX'ers hmm. whats going on with me. anyway a cold air intake will give u a different type of power than a short ram. the short ram is better for throtle response. ive got one and its loud enough. up past 3500 it just roars. go with the short ram. and that exhaust sounds like its ghetto rigged. id bag it and get the rsr

Could you take a pic and post of your intake? That way we can understand what type it is. There is not much to an intake and it may be fine, what it is and not worth getting another one for. Also, the Apexi World Sport exhaust is an entire cat-back system...this means it completely replaces the piping from the catalytic converter back to the exhaust tips (including the muffler). And I have to admit Apexi World Sport is a good bang for the buck exhaust with a nice sound...AccordtunerX has it and I've heard his video clip.

And with a 180K, if your engine is in good shape I wouldn't hesitate in doing mods, i'd be more concerned with ur automatic tranny condition

                    you can...

                    1) swap over ur performance parts to another F22 engine u buy

                    2) or rebuild this engine or another (u may need use of other car)

Another thing to consider is, you got stuck with an automatic...I am not sure what it can handle in terms of power, but you should look into what it can and if you will ever exceed that. But honestly, you probably won't get to that point anyhow, less you turbo or go crazy with nitrous.

So make sure your automatic tranny is in good shape, do a tune up on your exisiting engine (NGK plugs, wires, Honda dist cap & rotor, fuel filter, verify your fuel injectors working properly, maintain your fluids (ie. coolant, ATF, engine oil), adjust valve lash and make sure your timing/balancer belt is not due for a change. If you have the ability to check compression and do a leak-down, that will give u a better idea of what shape your engine is in. maybe down the road cylinder headwork may be needed to retain a good running engine if your piston rings are still in decent shape.

in general...intake, header, exhaust, high-flow cat, cams (regrinds most likely), cylinder headwork, intake manifold work and/or swap, larger throttle body, higher compression pistons, rods if you need them depending on stage you are at, injectors, tuning, cam gear if u get a cam regrind, fuel pressure regulator if you get a cam regrind, nitrous....if you go turbo or think it, i would look into getting another cb7 or doing a manual conversion or finding someone that can build up your auto tranny & while they are there...I'd change or tweak the gearing : )

                      Sorry

My mistake F22a6 - thats why I indicated "I Think" in the last post and I also think the topic of the thread says it all. I'm just a new born to this domain of power tweaking Cars till they ripp through quarter miles.

Yo, I'm down i wanna hook this car up but I don't want to spend an insane amount of money. If anything I'll do it piece by piece.

Sorry to keep bringing this up but I have my heart set on that Magnaflow Cat-back Item#15687 but will it get the job done in quieting the sound?

My car has a really loud deep tone, it actaully sounds like a real race car but i don't have the HP to back it up and now it's annoying cause I can't here my music while I ride! People compliment my ride with the way it sounds but it's embarrassing when i've got dodge neon's (stock) dustin me! HELP

No holes in the pipe by the way....

                        Future Plans

Right now I wanna keep this car running for about another yr. if i can.

All i wanna do is kill the loud exhuast, fix any stupid modification that was put into it, check the entire engine like the last person posted - this is just to keep it running for another 6-12 months.

After that then it's my birthday, then we can have fun. I'll do an H22 swap I/H/E, nexus suspensions system, rims, maybe even a turbo, all the good sh.... then i'd be worthy to represent the CB7's. Right now the car isn't even worthy enough to post pics of it! But i'll take pics of the tail pipe and the intake to let you guys see.

my friend has that magnaflow cat back and its soooo quiet its insane. it has a nice tone, not ricey at all. its a nice mellow sound. go with that if u want power and no noise. i drove his car with the exhaust on it and i felt a difference in the throttle response. could have been me but it was def. nice.

Question- Right now I have an F22 with a few mods, but I plan to upgrade to an H22 with a few mods. Will the 2.25 exhaust be too restrictive for the H22? Should I get crush-bent 2.5 with a magnaflow muffler instead?

                              New Exhaust

Haha, I just replaced the exhaust with the stock exhaust and now the car runs soo smooth and quiet.... I do feel a slight loss in power but it's barely noticable.

My car feels nice, it's a cruisin ride right now till i get money for the H22... I want this car basically to get from point A to point B, to and from work.

I've got 1 problem though, the car has a slight shake or jitter when I put it in neutral, drive or reverse. I don't know whats causing it, it could be the plugs, spark plug cable, or fuel injectors but i'm not sure. It's a 13 yr. old car if anyone knows why the car shakes or jitters when idle, or in gear, lemme know so i can replace whatever will make it ride smooth again!

                              Thanks
