From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

What is the quietest performance exhaust/muffler?

i was looking on ebay for the obx twinloop, but nothing showed up. only some other even more generic company.

i really need to get some sort of exhaust. the top end on this car is struggling a little cause its being choked by a 2.25 piping and a stock muffler.

i know theres a point where youre not going to get high flow without being louder, but i would like to keep it as quiet as possible... at least when im just cruising.

and setups like the ws1/2, greddy, etc is out of the question, cause i also want a small muffler tip. 3" max.

Complete performance and quiet don't really mix.

Quiet exhaust are baffled/chambered. Chambers/baffles create exhaust restrictions. Exhaust restrictions limit power.

-get a chambered Thrush muffler from summitracing.com
I believe they are called "Dynomax Thrush Welded Mufflers" and cost around $30
Just make sure you do not get a "Thrush Turbo Muffler" and make sure it matches your exhaust piping size. You probably wanna get the 2.25" - it will be actually bigger, 2.25" will be the inside diameter.

-go to any auto parts store and get some exhaust pipe "reducers"
you will need one that is 2.25" outer diameter and 2.00" on the other end. then get a ~2.00" to ~1.5" reducer, then just get some 1.5" or 1.25" steel pipe

-have a muffler shop install the Thrush muffler on your car
and also have them weld the reducers and the 1.5" pipe together for you. so you will have a pipe that is 2.25" outer diameter on one end, then gets smaller and smaller and ends up being ~1.5" on the other end.
have the muffler shop make it 12" long and then you can always shorten it

-now just take that "silencer pipe" you made and insert it into the outlet of the muffler. it should go through one chamber of the muffler and end in the other chamber. it will not fall out because your muffler is 2.25" inner diameter and your "silencer pipe" is 2.25" outer diameter on one end. it is also not visible. you can drill a hole in the muffler outlet and put a little screw there to ensure that it doesn't move around.

it will sound great. slightly louder than stock but MUCH MUCH quieter than any straight-through or twin-loop

when i first got on cb7tuner, there was a thread going around talking about gutting the RSX (type-S?) muffler and re-welding it up. not sure if thats something you'll be looking into.
