Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

Auto tranny S light. What does it mean?

I have a 909 ex auto with a sport shift option where you turn a key near the shifter and I guess it does something. there is a light on the dash that is a box with a S in it. It is on all of the time. What does this mean?

Also have a code 17 which is the VSS. The speedo doesn't work but does the VSS control anything else?

The sport shift option is a button/switch on the automatic shifter itself. The key hole is a manual unlock for the shifter/tranny when motor is off/parked, etc.

Your VSS code does affect your automatic trans, get that fixed first and then see if your "S" light goes away. It is common to replace VSS units, they do go bad. If not, then you need to check the auto tranny code and translate. You check by shorting the service connector like pulling engine codes, but look at "S" light instead and count flashes in same manner, these are called TCU codes.

Translate here, bottom of post # 2:

i have been going through this problem with my 92 but of course rather then it being the "s" light its the "d4" light that is blinking. and i have the code that came up as the vss and i replaced that and it still is blinking. and i just for info i am swapped to a f22b dohc. and before the swap the speedometer was working but not after it.

Ultimately, you have to check your TCU codes.

I've had my sister's 91 SE auto give the VSS code, just replaced that part and it was fine.

My other sister's 91 EX auto had a flashing D4 light and it was the TCU that failed. I replaced with a good known working one and it has worked fine since.

My 91 accord ex has the same problem, the S light comes on and stays on, seems like it doesnt shift. It doesnt do this all the time but here recently even the shifter doesnt want to come out of park. I tried pulling the codes and the tcu hasnt stored anything, just a solid S light. What do you think I should replace first? The TSU, speed sensor?
