    Motor Mount Question.

So I'm going to need new motor mounts for my little project I've got going. Mine are shot and I was wondering if instead of buying new motor mounts, can I just get new motor mount inserts? Like the polyurethane kits that are sold. I'm just curious about this. If not, then who makes good quality motor mounts that are decently priced? I want something cheap, that will hold up through high stress driving. I'm sure that's asking alot but just give me your opinions and possibly suggestions as to who I should go with for motor mounts.

This is an example of the inserts I'm talking about.

Honestly man..i am going to tell you to not go cheap and get something will last. i cant ell you a cheap brand cause i dont look at them..i guess ebay or something.. but personally im going ESP rather then anyother brand. They make thier kits out of steel and most other people make them out of aluminum.

The kit costs $275 bucks but it will last under anything you could throw at it.

Ok, First off, cheap and quality don't usually mix (I say usually because you can find some deals). From my understanding a motor mount insert comes as a chunk of rubber that you have to either press or just place into your existing motor mounts. I've not used them personally so please excuse my lack of knowledge. If they don't actually replace the rubber pieces of your original motor mount, then stay away. it's still using the support of that crappy stock mount first before it starts to put pressure on the inserts and that will result in more flex.

I too totally support the ESP full mount kit. They will not break and it's all made of the strong stuff, I doubt they would put that crappy worn out material in the center of their mounts.

thanks for the info guys. im just curious, if i can get the rubber inserts replaced, why not just do that instead of getting the whole metal part of the mount too? does the metal on the stock mounts really "wear out." i can understand getting esp mounts if they are a tougher metal and everything, but can you really tell a difference?

Maybe if you make over 500whp and use 26" or larger slicks. Then you MIGHT bend the OEM metel mounts.

it's not the metal that your buying ESP for. The ESP mounts do 2 things. They provide proper fitment for those who are doing a 5 speed swap into their cars and they provide 1 solid mount in their steel frame. No the steel doesn't wear out on our stock ones but the rubber does. If you look at the Energy Suspension mounts, they come in 2 pieces per mount. You put them around your rubber part and use the spacing in the stock rubber surround to hold the two pieces in place.

I think the only reason why ESP makes you buy the new metal as well as the inserts that are in them is because there would be no way to redesign our stock mounts to fit 1 solid piece of urethane. But I don't work for ESP, so you should probably talk to them.

you can't replace the rubber, its formed when they make the mounts. You can fill them w/ McMasters urethane, but if you don't drive a race car, then it's not a good idea. That'll give you vibrations, MAJOR vibrations at idle. I had a solid front mount for a little while and got sick of it within a month's time.

The ESP kit would be your best option. 275 for a complete kit is CHEAP. Try replacing all the Honda mounts for that price and expect them to last as long as the ESP ones do...not gonna happen. Plus, if these ESP inserts ever wear out, they're inserts, 2 halves, just get 2 new ones for each mount and the mounts will be like new again. Its a very simple yet effective design.

I would only use poly motor mount inserts on the front dogbone mount. However, for the other 3 definitely get ESP motor mount kit for your application.

For manual tranny rear motor mount, you will need a 90-93 DX/LX rear tranny bracket.

Kevin, these ESP mounts do make a difference in driveability. You don't seem to understand how. Keep in our motors are mated to the tranny and this whole assembly is mounted in the engine bay via 4 engine mounts (mainly the 3, minus dogbone). We have FWD (front weel drive), so if this whole eng/trans assembly is not secure, it can induce wheel hop. You keep this assembly stable, it will improve shift quality and launch/traction.

I'm SURE you know about wheel hop and minimal traction from your automatic (manual shifting) experience and I saw how much your motor moved due to your completely shot mounts. That's probably the worst I've seen, even leaning on your motor it moved!! I guarantee you will sh*t your pants in the difference when you install.

Just fill them up with polurethane from mcmastercarr.com
They lasted me for years without any issues do it just one time make sure there arent any bubbles in the mix. When you pour it in let it set for a complete 24 hours to solidify and your good.
