Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

Give specific details like temperatures, coolant/water ratios, and equations. Millions of dollars in engineering put less than half the power to the wheels that i am now. With that power comes support in other places. This being one of them.

God .. I gotta jump in here .. as alotta you guys have very valid points ..

I never ran a thermo either.. for a LONG time .. but then again, I lived in Hawaii ..
where it's like a constant 78 degrees, all year ... I've heard debate about this forever.

Here in Florida, my thermo is staying on .. we get a bit cooler in the winter then Hawaii does ... lol

However, when we installed the new motor .. it seemed to run a lil bit hotter ..
Never once did we throw any codes of any kind .. my mech suggested a new radiator .. BaM ..
Huge difference .. and we discovered the tiniest lil iddie biddie leak at the bottom of the old one,
when we pulled it out and let it sit in a corner ..

The Honda in Hawaii had a *toggle swith* on the dash to hit the fan on when it was hot outside
and the a/c was stressing, while we were in gridlock .. which was 75% of Hawaii driving.

      Here in Florida .. never a gridlock .. I-95 gets ripped on at a constant 120-150 km/h
Bottom line is .. if you dont live in Hawaii, or a climate thats constant .. keep your thermo in ..
If you're in gridlock alot .. install a switch that hits the fan on .. it never hurt my Hawaii car.
Matter a fact it ran better with it .. and trust me .. those fan motors are tuff sons a bitches ..

      Thats my Ku'u Mana'o = .02

You sir, are the one that has no idea what you are talking about. I would really like you to call 10 performance shops, then 10 dealerships and ask to talk to a master tech if available. Ask ALL of them there opinion of running no thermostat on a perfect running car, and then ask them what they think about running one on a car that is overheating. Let the real experts decide, since I dont know what im talking about.

I havent even bought the accord im getting yet and im already regretting buying one just because most of the crowd around honda seems like a bunch of idiots. Are there any technical sites for hondas? Even honda-tech seems pretty lame. I am coming from the mr2 and dsm world, which IMO have awesome boards, members that are engineers and techs...bleh, ill shutup before I get banned

I have to agree that not running a thermostat is a bad idea. Just as JDMHOTNESS stated, not running a thermostat at all is bad because the coolant flows to quickly through the radiator to cool down. If you want to run thermostat-less, you can do what the pro's do and use a restriction plate. All it is, is an old thermostat with the center cut out. It allows water to constantly flow, but creates a slight restriciton to slow the flow of the coolant.

            Thank you.

Like he said, you can use a restriction plate, but you do not want the whole thermostat out. Having no thermostat and having a wide open thermostat are 2 different things and have different size holes.

I love my lower temp Mugen thermostat and fan switch... The fans come on an awful lot in warmer weather but all in all it seems to run a bit cooler in general...

If i were to go to a master tech they'd tell me my car can't be and shouldn't be turbo'd in the first place. Maybe you have me mixed up with sparkle and think i'm not running a thermo. U wanna get into a tech match with me...go ahead

Haha no tech battles needed, I guess I just assumed everyone knew a thermostat should always be run in a car wether its overheating or not.

                      Here's what I installed/did over the weekend:
                      *Koyo OEM radiator
*Beck Arnley Low Temp Fail-Safe Thermostat (part #143-5672 - Says 171* right on it)
*Converted to Honda's Type 2 Blue coolant
                      *Bypassed T/B line
*Removed ENTIRE A/C system including evaporator but not the evap. shell
                      *Alternator belt for A/C'less DX

So far I have seen no problems w/ the t-stat, w/ what I did above the car runs a lot cooler overall. I have seen no negative effects what-so-ever.

The only problem I did have, I could not for the life of me get the drain bolt loose on the back of the block. I think somebody over-torqued it or it hasn't been opened in a while, but I couldn't get it. So I took out the t-stat, flushed the system out 10 times until fresh water came out (ran for 15-20 sec. at a time) and then put in the Honda Blue.

That's my input on this topic, my t-stat is basically half way between OEM and a 160* t-stat, so I feel it's a good compromise since the ECU is stock Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it

Well, I'm not an expert, but I just don't like how cars are running hotter and hotter these days, I just don't see the need. Yes, there are plenty of reasons the automotive designers could give me, but I just wanted my system SLIGHTLY cooler. I'm aware a cool engine is bad, I know that. I also know, to get the full effect I'd need a diff. fan switch. I basically put it in as an experiment, b/c I'm trying to learn everything I can. If it doesn't work out I'll put the OEM in, thats all Take care

I now have the Mugen fan switch and thermostat (from B-series) and absolutely love it. It'd prob. be overkill w/ the Koyo race radiator, but w/ the Koyo OEM radiator, I saw a huge difference on hot days. If it doesn't retain as much heat in the colder months, I'll prob. pop my Beck Arnley 170* t-stat back in. Very happy w/ this setup though

I'm using the other switch, #37773-XGMR-0000- For 91-01 Prelude, the one you listed is for Civic/Integra, S2K, RSX, etc... I got the Prelude one b/c I know it works, so get the Prelude one just to be safe. My switch came from King Motorsports btw

Wow 2 years later lol. I might have to do this in the future. Seems like it would be a fun little mod and cheap. So overall how much did the tstat and fan switch cost?
