How much should I be paying for a built F22?

If I bring to a machine shop my block, pistons, rods, ARP hardware, and bearings.
What is the typical cost for complete assembly of the block?

I just don't want to get ripped off

2 hours to blue print a block? it takes a lot longer than that. dont expect just to slam everything together and expect it to last 100,000 miles. not aftermarket parts. ive seen rods that differ half a thou to where the crank doesnt turn.

400 dollars to blueprint and assemble a bottom end wouldnt be bad.

            I wouldn't mind paying around $500, that's kinda what I was expecting.

So two people are saying it will cost $1000... for that much, I think I would just do it myself.

On the bisimoto website, it says about $2800 for assembly but that includes sleeving the block. So that means approximately ~1800 for just the assembly.

it takes much longer than 2 hours to properly measure and put an engine together. Especially if balancing items. If its a decent ship it should be around a grand. It really just depends on how well you want your engine to run and how long you want it to last.

I'd have to agree with the 1K price range. Since your not getting any major work done on it. A good place will make sure all your measurements are precise and balance everything for you and hone the cylinder walls, do a line bore, polish the crank install the right size bearings, it's a lot of work. And quite honestly you get what you pay for.

I know Bisimoto would charge more than 1K to build an engine, but he's pretty much "the best" when it comes to these motors.

im pretty cocky myself but bisimoto definitely knows what he is doing. You pay for his knowledge.

                    This idea comes to mind...

                    - Research what you need to get done, talk to a couple machine shops.
                    - Obtain itemized price listing for work needed.
                    - Call & compare pricing.
                    - Come to your own conclusion on what is "normal" in your area.

this seems like the best thing to do..
When you go to shops, ask a lot of questions that only professionals with a lot of experience can answer..ask tough questions, that way you can weed out the cheap places that are only trying to get your money and dont care how the block ends up..

                      good luck

Thanks everyone for the advice and clearing things up for me.
I realized that I would rather pay more and have a motor that can handle virtually anything, than paying a little less and/or putting it together myself and then possibly having an unreliable setup.

I paid $3400 shipped for my shortblock. Came with a build list and spec sheet. That was without a core though. Granted, that was for an Evo, but should give you an idea of what it will cost by the time you buy all the parts and have it put together.

For what it's worth here's the price of my new F23 bottom end:

                            $250 new OEM bearings/seals/gaskets
                            $500 shelf pistons
$90 for a salvage F23 short block (core, local)
                            $85 bore+hone
                            $25 hot tank
                            $70 new timing belt
                            $50 new head gasket

I did the assembly so that was "free."

$1080 in parts and machine work constitute the expense, having someone else do the assembly for you is going to cost you. Shop rate is rarely under $80 an hour and any meticulous builder is going to take much more than 2 hours.

checking clearances and balancing is different than just assembling. any day laborer can assemble a complete motor in 3 hours.
