    Auto capabilities.....

Lets talk about automatic hp capabilities in stock form (not manuals). I don't want this to turn into a pissing contest nor a bitch fest, lest just discuss the capabilities of F/H auto trans. And if you have built or running a decent setup N/A-FI comments are more than welcome.

As some may know my current build will revolve around a automatic whether i stick with my F22a trans or upgrade to an H is one of my thoughts. Maybe ones more capable of higher hp and the occasional beating which i would assume an auto from a H22 wouldn't mind it as much as a F22 trans.

No manual talk as they're plenty of information out there on those F/H transmissions. Not so much has been done with the auto maybe a hand full. Yes my trans and everything else will be taken care of properly aswell with a OE replacement converter.

Please discuss! Maybe we can all learn something new ya just never know.

Ive always had this thought in the back of my head to build an automatic boosted honda.

I would start out with a stall convertor and finding a way to increase line pressure to firm/quicken up shifts.

I havent found any performance clutch packs for them but you best bet may be to get the heavy duty replacement clutch packs.

I found an MP1A auto with an LSD in the junkyard last week and it's probably the most capable of the F/H automatics that there are. It was optional in the 4th generation Preludes in Japan with H22As. I have manual transmission car and removing this bastard from the car in the junkyard with as bulky as it is was enough to convince me to never have an automatic.

I probably will switch to an H trans once this one goes out. I don't plan to make much over 200whp if that and rarely get on it besides at the track.

I know lvl10 has aftermarket converters i just can't justify $700+ for one right now. I know it would help a great deal getting off the line which is really where the auto struggles the most, but the gears dont really help either.

well myself personally gave up on the automatic transmission, i had no type of luck with them. ive had the stock , then what ever it was when i did the f22b swap, and then evetually i got the mp1a lsd tranny when i did my h22a swap. i can admit i beat the holy piss out of all of them and the one that held up the longest was the mp1a. i ended up blowing that up because the rear mount wasnt attached to the block in any way because the tranny bolts for it ended up backing out and causing the tranny to smack into the front crossmember which eventually killed it. didnt help i had shifted it manually quite alot like a complete idiot but i started doing that cause it wasnt shifting right and it shifted some what normally when i did that. so id say get a mp1a if you can and just make sure you watch the bolts so they dont manage to back out and dont be stupid and shift it manually lol. and make sure you use honda transmission fluid.

See i don't plan on beating on mine but every so often. Once the engine reaches around 5-7k then the power adder will come into play or an H trans until then it'll be N/A (bolt on's, P&P head/Top end, maybe a cam etc etc). The car was owned previously by a high school kid so i'm sure the trans took a beating daily the engine was neglected so i'd say the trans was aswell that's why i'm going to play it out for the first few thousand miles on my build without what the finished product.

Autos are better for boosted cars anyway.

Manual transmissions impress high schoolers; auto transmissions win races.

It will be sprayed or boosted neither will break the 220whp mark unless i want it to, but i don't and won't because the cars main purpose is to be a dd with a bit extra behind it.

Why not just get an H22 Auto LSD, Bisimoto Header, Level 1 Cams, GM Manifold, Catback, and Intake and call it a day? You should make that mark easily. Or you just want to be boosted? The amount of force put on a transmission through boost is alot different then the force from an N/A motor.

                    Simple...

1 Because this is my build not yours.
2 Because my name sorta hints why i don't go DOHC don't it?
3 I would not spend over $1400+ for a 11whp header and maybe 10whp cam's after a bang on tune that cost $400.
4 I will make my mark reguardless it shouldn't be hard with my build the trans is my only concern.

This is about automatics not what you think i should have or shouldn't have built. I didn't ask for opinions on that matter, so lets stay on topic.
As for your last statement on the trans thats been taken into concentration. Heat is what gets to autos the most i'm going to address this when the time comes.

Easy bud, I don't think he was talking your ideas down. I think he was just proferring an opinion. While it was a bit of a tangent from the scope of your question I think you were a little too offended. You didn't make specific note of your budgetary restrictions in this thread and you did suggest that we discuss.

On an unrelated note, you have a PM.

Not offended in the least little bit, but i'm making it clear this is not a "What should i build" thread. This is strictly about transmissions and autos at that.

Again this has nothing to do with my engine build, what we are discussing is automatic transmissions.

Edit: And if i came off as an ass it wasn't my attention to, i was merely answering your questions seriously. If i need to list my complete engine setup i will including what's already done and what my main objective is, but the WHP mark i have done stated.

                          Bad advice.

Run better trans fluid, use a transmission cooler and an inline filter, this will greatly prolong the life of the transmission. Initia setup will be costly however if you have a nice new transmission and treat it right then it wil no doubt last 200k with abuse even @ 200 whp.

I am indeed going to run a trans cooler opinions on that would be greatly appreciated.

At the moment i have honda ATF ready to go, it should do just fine while N/A. But do you have any proof of your fluid statements? i have ran Amsoil in a few vehicles and the products are great, but never trans fluid.

Just to clear things up for anyone wondering here's a small run down of my setup just incase.

F22b1 block/ Decked .005/ Honed/ Nippon pistons, rings, and wrist with coated domes.
Oem rod and main bearing's/ king thrust/ Shot peened rods with gsr 9mm ARP rod bolts/ F22a6 windage tray.
F22a1 head milled .035, a few new valves and supertech valve seals/ A6 valve springs/ Ported head/ Cleaned up A6 intake manifold tapered inlet.
                              And bolt on's.

Things that are going to happen later....
Mild cam something like a lvl1 or 2 bisi (Not what i'm going with exactly but something around that area spec wise) and a wet 75 shot with studs ofcourse. Like i said i won't make over 220whp if that, and it will not be sprayed like a power hungry hippo.

The goal of this thread was to gather information on the transmissions as a whole for anyone interested in doing a mild build in general, not just for my goals.
