Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    Bend your own exhaust pipe?

i've got a 6"(was 2" long three weeks ago) long rust hole in my exhaust pipe. you can see it if you look from the rear passenger side. i REALLY don't have $200(quoted price from a shop near here) for a shop to install a new exhaust from the cat>muffler. BUT, i do weld, and can afford a $60 benchtop bender and the pipes(i will need the pipe bender for a go-cart project anyways). I really would like to get a job working on cars, and this would give me some experience with automotive welding.

I understand that it will be hard to get the bends in the pipe perfect, but besides that, are there any problems with my idea? will the pipes crimp? what kind of piping would i need/where do i get it?

and if you don't think it will work, please explain why and leave it at that. i really don't feel like getting blasted by some of the jackasses on the board.
I........love my car. Simple as that.

I would just get crushed bent pipe from auto zone or similar. I dont think you can get smooth mandrel bends from a regular pipe bender. I could be wrong though.

you can buy mandrel bent pieces of pipe online and just cut and weld to get the right bend or you could just go to a local parts store and buy sections of cruch bent pipe. since its probably a stock exhaust you could just use the local crush bent pipes and it will be the same...hope this helps.

i am experinceing the same problem, but my friend it hookin me up with a 2.5"pipe. it olny cost me $95, and his dad is installing it for $30. however, i went to an advance auto store an they priced me 130 for all pipes all gaskets. and installation is generly easy.. with a jack and jack stands

it is currently stock, but i'm getting a aftermarket muffler with a 2.25 inlet, so i've going to get some 2.25 piping. i should have said that in my post

i didn't even know that auto stores sell pre-bent piping, so thats definatly an option. BUT i would still like to do it my self(i've going to need the bender for a go-cart projectg anyways., anymore thoughts on that?
