Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

How much is a new 5 speed transmission with clutch and every thing if I put it in my self

I would suggest overhauling the unit, rather than replacement, though it depends upon what the problem is.

Well I think the syncro is gone between 1 and 2? I think. So it grinds sometime. And its slow to shift. Like 2-3 seconds with the clutch down all the way before I will atempt a shift, than I hope it dose not grind.

I am currently in the same boat you are. I'm not doing it myself though. It started out that way and everything just started going wrong and parts just kept breaking so I got so frustrated that I called the tow truck and had it towed to the local transmission shop. I got my clutch from Kabuki, and Exedy unit, for $124 shipped, and I'm getting a 5 speed transmission from a local wrecking yard(make sure it has a good reputation) for $200. Doing the work yourself with everything going the right way(parking it in your friend's driveway in Utopia) it will cost you around $400, depending on how cheap you find the transmission. The one I'm getting is a '91 with 83K miles on it. Let me know if you have any questions on the removal and install. If your's goes anything close to normal then I should be able to help you if you need it.

              Hey ChIoVnIdCa

Did you check the clutch fluid? Your problem sounds a little worse than mine, but I was having major problems shifting into first or second. I mean it was bad! I held up traffic a few times trying to get the damn thing to shift into first. It felt frozen solid amost. I had to pump the clutch like mad and force it into first. So I started calling around to see how much a clutch would be. Well on a hunch I popped the hood and checked the fluids and noticed that the clutch fluid was down a half inch or so. Put more fluid in, pumped the clutch a few times and BAM it was back to shifting like butter.

Still need a clutch though! Grabs too damn high. Friend knows a guy that will do it for a little under $300 bucks. Sounds good to me because all the mechanics around here quoted me at least $500.

I might as well not have a clutch pedal, fo all the good it does me.
It'll be an interesting drive out to our work garage.

I feel you. My car is getting harder and harder to drive. I really don't have the money, but its either that or starting walking to work!

How long ago since your last fluid change? If you have a slight grind at higher rpms only you should change your tranny fluid with GM sychromesh gear oil or go to your local parts store and ask for Penzoil Synchromesh oil(the makers of the GM stuff) only difference is the price. Some of the peeps on Honda-tech.com prelude forumn started using this stuff after the grinding problem started and managed to get rid of the grinding when switching to this stuff.

Actually my tranny doesn't grind at all. It's just that my clutch grabs very high.

Yea, I heard of the Pennzoil synchromesh being same as GM stuff as well. Think I'll do this for hell of it on trans. oil change. Getting some grinding action too.
