just a simple question will i feel a noticeable gain by adding these?

Please DO NOT Post In The General Section
From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.
The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.
For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.
Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.
Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

This is Probably been answered about 3,458 times. But here goes number 3,459.
Pulley's alone won't do much really, i'd say 2-3 HP gains, especially because the AEM pulley's include only P/S and ALT and most tuners would agree the power gets freed up most @ the crank.
Noticeable gains? I'd say little to none, on the dyno there would be some improvement. Also, pulleys work well when you have other mods done as well. Everything Helps everything out, if you get me.
I myself have the UNorthodox racing pulley set comes with same as AEM plus the crank. However, I have absolutely felt a noticeable differnece especially from the LOW end. my acceleration from a complete stop is signifigantly quicker. I am going to dyno soon. BTW, i have a lot done to my engine. So like I said the gains show much easier.
take care. And yah go for it if you got the extra dough.

Ok, let me explain this to you. Underdriving involves slowing the speed of the accesories from the crank pulley. Smaller crank means less rotation, which means less weight and less distance to rotate, therfore it is being "underdriven". This slows the accesories. which is EXACTLY what you want to do! This provide the MOST HP increase in the pulleys.. Also the weight reduction @ the crank provide around 2-3 HP per Pound removed.i.e. OEM Crank =5 lbs. New Crank = 1 lb, 4 lb. difference = 6-8 HP just from weight reduction. If you have a larger crank pulley it will overdrive the accesories which is the best way to get more power for your electrical system. i.e. two 12" subs.Originally posted by SteveB
That doesn't make any sense.
The smaller crank pully slows down the accessory drives, the same way larger accessory pully do.
AEM does accomplish this by increasing the SIZE of their pulleys, which in turn slows down the accesories as well. BUT! the big BUT! This method is not as effective because what you are trying to do here is eliminate weight! By increasing the size of the accesory pulleys you are increasing their weight, which completely defeats the purpose of pulley tuning.
And cb7-R, your right it does change the ratio, but it is not the most effective by any means.

That's not bad for just those two pulleys. The peak gains aren't what really matters though. Just look how much quicker the torque and horsepower get up there. They go up a lot faster and they don't fall off quite as fast near the redline. So even though the peak gains are small there is a big increase in the area under the curves which shows a good overall gain.

Lighter than OEM, but not as light as UR pulleys.Originally posted by cb7-R
I understand the theory behind the pulleys and aem does accomplish this with the larger pulleys because, despite their larger diameter the pulleys are made of a lighter alloy and are lihgter than oem pulleys. anyone who owns these pulleys can attest to that

so basically the consensus is that aem tru power pulleys do in fact help your curve a little bit, and they dont cost that much, but you could spend about twice as much on the unorthodox racing set, and prolly gain a lot more....
basically i thinik it would be worth saving to get the ur pulleys. or if you could get custom ones made somewhere that are bigger and lighter both??? sounds like it would be cool. anyone ever broke an aftermarket pulley since they are lighter(maybe not as durable?? i dunno though)?
i wonder if you could remove the stock pulleys and maybe machine away some of the material to shave weight off them. especially the crank pulley if thats the one that frees up hp the most. anyone know if it would work?92 lx

ok the crank pulley is not just a pulley but also an engine dampner. so attempting any type of modification to this pulley may cause serious problems. the crank pulley that ur sells is lighter but its not balanced like the factory pulley and may cause crankchaft and or engine problems. this is why aem does not make this pulley because they feel it would shorten the life of the engine.(I called and asked) also one problem I have had with my aem pulley is battery charging. the larger alternator pulley does not let the battery charge properly. But its not a big problem and I would definetly recomend these pulleys to anyoneFS: BNIB MFactory FD $650, PM me.

First, your almost completely wrong. So, I'm going to explain this to everyone, so no one is steered in the wrong direction. The crank pulley is NOT an engine dampener, and our engines are internally balanced on top of this. U.R. makes the crank pulley to exact specs of the stock pulley, balancing wise (not size, obviously, or weight). The pulley is completley BALANCED, the only part that could potentially fuck up your engine is installation. It has to be right, or than your bearings will go.Originally posted by cb7-R

AEM may make great intakes, but their pulleys are not anything special. Like he said, they INCREASE the size of the ALT pulley and the P/S, which does increase some power but will fuck up internals. U.R. uses SAME size P/S, and ALT pulleys, just lighter ones. The only thing being under or over driven is the crank, where most power is FREED UP! Also, AEM is gonna tell you anything to sell you their products, just like any company.
The only reason I know this, is because I work for a company nea UR, which makes metal and alloys for them, I saw how they are made, and to what degree. Trust me, the last thing these pulleys will do, is fuck up your engine. Believe it or not, my engine is quieter because of it, and so are many others. BTW, I have no electrical problems what so ever, no dimming, nothing. Works GREAT.
