Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

Confused about sohc vtec vs dohc vtec vs dohc non vtec and so on.

Maybe a noob Question ? im a lil confused dohc (vtec) = Variable Valve Timing has twin cam's. Now im looking for a motor for my car not trying to do a swap or anything special to get more power but i found a f22b dohc and its non vtec can get it for 500 bucks. Whats the advantages in vtec, non vtec sohc, dohc if any ??

sohc - same cam profile used all the time
dohc vtec- larger cam runs with is given rpm range = more power
dohc non vtec ? assume it just uses both cams all the time ???
sohc vtec - How the hell does that work with one cam ? lol do the lobe expand with rpm's ? << j/k but really dont know how it works?
Thanks.... btw being held up on the sportline install freaking siezed bolt !! thanks to cpmike for the diy.

non-vtec sohc: is the same cam profile everytime

non-vtec dohc: same cam profile everytime, easy to tune with 2 cams

vtec sohc: when oil pressure hits a certain psi it tells the computer to open up the vtec solenoid to engage the secondary and high rockers to lock together on those cam lobes. thena when vtec works

vtec dohc: same as above but its alot harder

if i did not say something right help a kid out

I think its just dohc---- dual overhead cam shaft. more power.

sohc---single overhead cam shaft. Less power. better fuel economy.

vtec----increases mpg and has some hp gains.

i think. This is what i've always thought.

Sohc doesnt give better fuel economy, its all in how you drive it. The Sohc engines have less power in comparison due to the lower flow charicteristics(sp).
Its all in how you drive the car. We dont have v8's, the 4 is always nice to the gas tank.

VTAK is just for more power, and higher lift in the higher rpm's which allows the power to continue to rise. In comparison, the standard camshaft has to be set to one setting at which it makes peak power at a certain point, the VTAK!!! Cam can make power at 2 different points.

        So...
        Sohc- low flow
        Dohc-Higher flow
Sohc VTAK!!- Low Flow, Slightly modded cam for higher rpm power
Dohc VTAK!!- Higher flow, Modded cam for higher rpm power.

vtec is not just for more power....its also for fuel economy. thats the reason honda came up with it in the first place.
