    COld air intake

I have a 91 accord and I was wondering if the car tends to act different when you install a cold air intake. My car also has a intake control valve where the cold air intake is suppose to go. Is it ok to remove this piece without affecting the car? Is this piece really needed? thanks guys.

          cold air intake

I'm talking about the black box thats next to the battery. Is that necessary or can my car work fine without it cause I want to put the cold air intake in that area, so I would need to get rid of that black box or I think they call it the intake control valve.

Also, is a cold air intake much better then a short ram intake? Someone told me that hot air gives a better combustion than having cold air? I was like what!? Is this true?

Yes, you can safely dump that box and disconnect the line. Cap the line tho.

              CAI

Did you feel better power on your accord after the CAI cause someone told me that its better to suck up hot air because you get better combustion than the cold air. Also, after I dump the little black box by the battery and cap the line off, will my car run normal or will the check engine light of some weird crap start to happen. By the way, thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it.

warm air is ok. 1hp=-10degree drop in air temp.

i think u get less combustion with cold air thats why it gives a little less mpg (like 1mpg gosh). but it gives more response. and in the mid lower to upper rpms vs a short ram thats upper rpm power.

                thats my opinion.

i have stock cold air setup on my accord with the stock air box. i do feel a differnce in pick up. sounds nice.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

actually the colder the air the more denser it is ,so you want cold air into the combustion chamber because if its colder you can squeeze more in. the flow rate of the air may be the same but the volume will be diffrent. the more air you have the more you can burn. Of course this opens up a whole new can of worms cause now you need to increase your fuel to match with your air densityand you need to increase your flame to burn the new denser mixture. then you need to increase your exhaust exit so that the burnt gases can exit quicker. they all work in unision

Nope, definitely not better to suck hot air. I don't know how much difference it makes on a F22. I had the stock intake on mine. I went to the cold air when the H22 went in. I'm using a 'Lude CAI (I think the piping is bigger, not sure). There was a difference on the H22 tho.

And no, disconnecting that line will not cause a CEL or make the car run any differently. The only purpose of that box is to divert incoming air for noise purposes.

you definitely want the coldest air you can get. it makes it denser when it is colder. this means there is more air. combine more air with more fuel(bigger injectors or fuel pump, however you want more fuel) and bam.. =more power.

and for anyone who would say that hot air is better for more power, why would someone with a turbocharged car use an intercooler? because it sure doesn't heat up the air anyways, a cold air will give more power than a short ram. they both are better over stock airbox though, because they both give way more air. however with the short ram, you are still inhaling the air out of the engine bay which is pretty hot really, and a cold air sucks in air from a place where the temperature is not that warm. now, if you are very low budget you will improve with a short ram over the stock though, because the restriction of a stock airbox is just insane. its the sameCONCEPT of a port and polish on your intake manifold. it just smooths out the air path a lot, and really can help.

if you go with the full cold air intake, do get a bypass valve. it doesn't hurt your power like people say, and it can and will save the life of your engine if you ever drive where it is really wet.

Yes, I definately agree....the best way to go is with a TRUE cold air intake with a bypass valve. I've done dyno tests on numorous cars and we actually LOST horsepower with the short-ram intake....every car, everytime. However, with the CAI, average gains were around 12-17 hp. Just my .02

Oh, and to answer your question about the vacuum air silencer, removing it will not change anything (as long as you cap off the port at the manifold). Actually, some 4th gens don't ever have that to begin with....92/93 DX's and LX's if I'm not mistaking.

Ok, I have a simple question and I hope it's not off suject. I have a AEM cold air intake on my car and I was wondering where I could buy another filter for it. Does it have to be the same K&N/ AEM filter??
