chipping this weekend... soldering begins!

This is the weekend I finally break into the fascinating world of ECUs. We don't have it as easy as the guys with integras who can just open the map that comes with Uber. There is no real start place for F22a guys that I can find!


I'm either going to run the H22A stock and and disable VTEC, or run this F23B map:

WOW what a way to spend 12 hours! Finally got it desoldered, soldered, and programmed! The first 3 chips sure didn't run very nicely, and threw code 21 VTEC spooler...Then I got to working with MRX and he solved all my problems. I'm finally up and tuning with uberdata!

So tomorrow I will post some datalogging of my AFRs just as soon as the JB weld holding the serial port to my ECU dries...

Most people mess up the first one or two that they try to chip. Looks like you've got soem soldering skills. With practice, the whole process takes about 10-15 minutes. You'll get faster if you do it a lot.

Okay here's a datalog...



It sure was a PITA to get it to work because I soldered in a serial port THEN checked my laptop for a serial port and of course it doesn't have one but all's well with a $15 serial to USB converter and using its drivers. Then you have to disable the USB->COM port in Device Manager, start Uber, set the COM port, then enable the port again. Other wise you get errors about "The port is in use!"

Is that Kabuki's F23A bin that you datalogged?

and what engine/mods are you running again?

Its an F22A stock bin from MRX called nickspec6.bin. I'm running an I/H/E/IM and delta 272. This "stock" bin helped my idle a lot and is pretty good everywhere else except the high end. After I told him this he said thats funny... i should have given you my 272 bin

not bad, 272 from what we already knew loses some low-end torque in exchange for high end power and the datalog shows it. Its slightly rich from 3000-4200rpm decent from 4200-4700rpm and just goes lean anywhere above 4700rpm because theres alot more air coming in at the point. Glad it was aleast a smooth graph tho. How's it feel so far?

Its great! Even this "untuned" map its far better than my stock setup... for example I can idle without going rich. Another thing it sounds a lot better when I punch it. Just raw and throaty. Maybe it has to do with the AFRs being so good that I actually get complete and efficent combustion. The sputtering and misfires are reduced significantly. As far as feeling... yeah it feels faster. Its hard to describe, but it feels more in tune.... more consistent, less jumpy.

I'll need to get another data cable or MAX233 serial port and solder it into the stock ECU. It will probably run in limp mode since the wideband will throw a O2 sesor voltage CEL. Also I don't know if you can datalog a stock ECU. I thought you had to disable closed loop in uberdata first in order to datalog. Possibly I could do this by jumping the service connector to check CEL codes... but that might throw it into limp mode... again I don't know. Worth a try though, I'm not doing anything with my stock ECU anyway. Which to datalog... PT6? Also have a PT3.

Nevermind then, i thought ur wideband was a seperate unit that could do its own datalogging like the zeitronix units do. That'd be too much trouble...actually i'll just have hondafan do it.
