Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    p72 ecu ,worth it

hey fellas whats up with the p72? I have one that I plan to run with my h22. I ve heard some say that they are over rated and that a p28 (chipped) is just as good. but I ve also heard that the p28 is just a cheap alternative to the p72. As I understand it the p72 has more agressive fuel maps and can be played with more by a tuner. I plan on getting it hondata tuned. Whats your input people.

IIRC the only advantage the P72 has is that in can control the IAB solenoid. Other then that it is functionally the same as a P28. You're getting a Hondata anyway so does it really matter?

The P28 and P72 are identical ECU's other then the P72 has IAB control and a knock board.

Now in OEM form the P72 does have more agressive fuel and spark because it runs a DOHC Vtec engine rather then a SOHC economey Vtec engine. But that doesn't make a single lick of difference since in order to get either to run an H22 you need to chip them with the correct maps to run the H22. In which case the playing field is even.

Now having IAB control really doesn't make a difference. The H22A's intake manifold is so efficient that not using the secondaires doesn't make a noticable difference and in some cases with proper ECU tuning it makes no difference.

I made more HP and more torque across the board with a tuned P28 not using the secondaries at all then with a Spoon chipped P13 using the secondaries.

So why spend the extra assload of money that a P72 costs if it's really not going to get you anywhere.

Thanx much for the reply. guess I wasted my money then, huh?? Hey btw on one of the "other" accord forums a dude said his chipped p72 gave him more top end power than his chipped p28 did. And there were others on the board who agreed with him. Do you think there's any truth to that?? Also if the ecu's are identical and the fuel and spark mapping don't matter when they're both chipped ,then how come hondata doesnt tune the p13. As I understand it, they tune the ecu's so that they will respond better to any mods done to your car ,right? Then why do you suppose they dont tune the prelude ecu???

Well Hondata does not offer an application for the P13 because the P13 is a different format ECU. Since the P06/P08/P28/P72 etc. language is already throughly understood and can be made to properly operate a Prelude engine why spend more money and time to reverse engineer another ECU.

As for the "other" board you found with a P72 making more power then a P28. Yeah I beleive that. My arguement here is that a P28 TUNED to the H22A can make equal if not more power then a P72. The comparisons I've done personally on the Dyno do not give the P72 enough of a benefit to justify the higher price.

Think about it, You can get P28 for under $200, Why spend $250+ for 1whp and 1 or 2 more ft lbs. of torque.

As for comparsions do a search on this very site for my Dyno runs. The numbers are right there.
