    tranny probs?

Okay, so i have a 92dx with 23k miles on it, just came out of a full tune up and everyhting.

When i fist got it, the car had absolutely no pickup, like with ym dad in the car (only have my permit ), i would floor the car in d4, and it owuld barely move form a stop.

then the other day after installing the new short ram intake (the ghetto one with the stock tubing), i noticed it had grown some balls and decided it wanted to have some pinkup after all

i was all happy, but then last night when i went to get something froma friend's ouse, i noticed the new balls had been lost and it had no pickup again ;(

can anyone help me in the direction of what it could me?

PS-i know it 's not the distirbutor, the car fires up immeditaely when starting.

What do you mean by no pickup? As in it bogs or what?

first off, congrats on getting a car with so little miles on it. it should be in really good shape, but... it's an auto. they don't have alot of balls to begin with. and it will always feel less powerful with more weight in the car, be it passengers, or even just a full tank of gas.

edit - you say you gave it a full tune-up, but when i check your cardomain, those plug wires look mighty old. maybe give it a real full tune-up, and see if that helps.

i also notice you have AC, running the AC will make it feel less powerful.

        Well thanks

im not sure, it feels good is i put it in D1 and drive, or even in reverse.

my friend told me tat accords have somehting programmed into the TCU that inhibits the shifting of the gears until certain rpm (like a safety measure of some sort?)

he told me to unhook the battery for about 30 minutes to reset that and the CPU, then retry it. he said that he's heard of other poeple having this problem, and these said people iltimately had to replace their TCU's and CPU's.

i think that may be the problem, because when i have the car in reverse or d1 as said above, it has the SAME pickup it had the one day i was driving it (mind you this was after a full fill up and after i installed my ghetto short ram intake).

my dad is always in it with me as my mom is scared to drive with me (idk why, i drive fairly good, lol).

Oh, to the first reply, yes it seems as it bogs down sort of, like as if it's in fourth gear or third gear (which are meant for higher speeds than going from a dead stop) and the engine has to work SUPER hard to get the ar moving because it cannot spin freely (or as free as 1 or 2 gear).

thanks for the insightful responses so far

hmm... have you ever noticed the green square around the D4 (on the cluster) not lighting up? if it doesn't light up, the TCU acts funny. i've seen this happen, and it makes the car feel really sluggish from starting off. also, you can try checking so see if it's throwing any codes.

i can't remember exactlyy, but the d4 has a red square around IT always,, say if i have her in park (green square), d4 has a red one.

i don't remember if the red turns to green when she is in d4 though

(don't exactly feel like going outside now, all nice and comfy in my bed with my laptop )

but tomorrow i will try disconnecting the battery for about 30 minutes and checking, then i will try resetting the ECU???

unhooked the battery toda for 30 minutes, still nothing.

i think im gonna look around in local junkyards for a tranny and get soe fiends to coe over and help me drop mine out and put the new one in, it should't take more than a day. if the car isn't beat to crap (the donor) ill keep the tranny if it's fixed, but if not ill just pick up a new one (or maybe a h23 tranny, it's give me some more power too )

Check your transmission fluid and I reccomend changing it and going with honda ATF only. Next is to check your ignition timing. Stock is 15 degrees before TDC, you can advance the timing a degree or so and you will get more power but will loose some gas mileage.

I had a smiliar problem and it was the transmission fluid, it was black and when I replaced it the transmission shifted smooth and shifted strong. Change transmission fluid first then persue the other transmission

First i have to disagree, the autos can be fast since they dont loose momentum when shifting, and second goes al the way to 70 before you have to change. There are a pair of solinoids on the front of the transmission. When i had my LX my d4 on the dash would blink and when it did the car would not leave first gear when in D4. just slowly get to speed...so it started out in fourth gear. Im gonna say you solinoids are going bad they are on the front of the tranny. (four of them, or two sets of two). you will start throwing a code for them before long if you dont replace them i was doing the same thing you are and that sucked I know how you feel..What happens is the tranny stays in D4 when you turn the car off and when you go to start it again the car is confused because the gear isnt where it should beso the car will not start, this is only how bad it can get though, if you let it go on. Know what though it may be the main relay..IDK cant remember its been awile but i think your main relay can effect that somehow to

also D4 is always green only park and neutral are red.
