Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    built cams = smog legal?

doing some research on cam grinding for an f22a1. If I do decide to go this route I'll grab an a6 cam and do a delta 260 regrind or talk to crower and see what they can do. My major concern is whether the vehicle will pass emissions here in CA with the assumption that the car is running on full intake and exhaust. Like to know if anyone out there could shed some light on this situation.

Well if your worried you can get you a p06 and tune it so it will pass. Im pretty sure MRX has a couple of maps and p06 for sale if you dont have one. I dunno how the stock PT3 will adjust with the cam regrind.

Hey bro check out the SD thread or socal area. You should be able to pass smog but not sure. Just make sure your cat, egr, and tune up are in good order and you should be ok. CA smog sucks big time but you have to deal with it.

Yeah, Im planning on running this upgrade with a pt6 ecu (forgot to mention that). Ill need to talk to MRX about that huh? And yeah, I'll have to make sure everything's nice and neat for smog. As it is now, I'm about 90% sure the car will pass as it is now but with a built cam, this could change without a proper tune up. Appreciate the feedback.

no offense, but blah blah. everyone always badmouths crower. nothing is perfect, all i know is all this breaking talk is always from people who "heard"... ive never heard a bad story from someone that owns them. ive been running crower for over 2 years now, and not even a hint of a problem has ever come up.

but back on topic... if you get tuned properly it shouldnt be a problem. there have been many threads about passing smog with a modified engine, and ill say again... its all in the tuning. i passed a "test only" smog with stage2 cams and a p72 ecu. i didnt detune anything. between the dyno tuning and smog all i did was put on a carsound cat, that was it.

the company says that the versions now are revised and less likely to break.

If your car is tuned properly you can pass cali smog no problem. Just make sure your catalytic converter is working, and make sure its hott when you take it in to the smog station. I had a tuned euro r motor in my ride, with a fpr, header, exhaust, and vtec controller and it passed smog no problem. I also passed smog at the bar with a stock jdm h22a motor back in 98 and 2006, so dont sweat it. If your car is running like ass, then no it wont pass smog, but if its running to its potential then you shouldnt have a problem.

I had crower springs and retainers in my gsr motor, and it never floated a valve even when i reved it out to 9,900 rpms on accident. Damn it sucks when you mis shift!

I was throwing the Delta regrind just as an example but I wouldn't disregard crower cams just because someone has 'heard' that they're bad.Besides they are conveniently based here in SD.

And yes, I did just coin the term 'built cams'...

Well to me, I would buy the cam that ive heard nothing but good stories about, not the one that ive read first hand experience threads
