Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

what to use for a header gasket?

i am so sick of this damn ebay header. this piece of shit wont hold for the life of it. the bolts that hold the down pipe to the exhaust manifold keep loosening up. this time when they loosened up they destroyed the gasket. what should i use for a gasket and what do i do to prevent the bolts from loosening up? any info will be appreciated.

    thanks,
    David

just torque them down tightly, use common sense and maybe loktite, but I find once it heat cycles for a week or so, the bolts are on their good until you physically remove them. any high heat gasket material will work

only way to go with a GOOD header is a copper gasket. little more expensive but will last 20 times longer and create a good seal. as to the bolts, torque them down to specs, run for a week then retorque down to specs. the constant hot/cold will cause gasket to seat lil better and in turn u may need to retighten the bolts. when i installed my header, i retightened 2x. ran car for 15min till normal temp. then shut off and tightened again then retightened after bout 5 days. good luck
