Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

Hi flow cat just does what it says. A test pipe is just a metal tube that replaces the cat. It would be kinda loud with just a test pipe. Hi flow cat will also be good if you have emissions area. They should have 2.5" both end when you get it.

cats are the least important thing when it comes to overall exhaust loudness. resonators and mufflers control that. cats are short and only break up air, but don't absorb any noise like resonators and mufflers do.

I would actually have to disagree with fizzbob, in my case when I replaced my stock cat with the Magnaflow high flow unit it got quite a bit louder. experiences will vary.

then your other cat was partially stopped up. a healthy stock cat flows well and you usually gain very little or no power and lose torque when using the average aftermarket cat.

cats can slowly melt down and block off some of the passageways in the 'honeycomb' and still sound good, but really not be.

i did exhaust work for a few years and pulling the cat shouldn't affect sound much at all. maybe create more high pitched noises but in terms of db output, it's within 3-5db on basically everything.

i didnt notice any gains from my new cat, i just wanted to go all stainless. the stock one looked to be fine as well which kinda sucked. but yeah the sound changed pitch maybe thats why it appears to be louder, either way it kinda sounds annoying at the right ambient temperature.
