Basic mods?

Before I go into suspension work, I want to get a little done to increase HP a little on my stock 91 Accord LX. I'm doing an AEM short ram in the next few days. After that, I know I'll be doing header/exhaust. I've read to go to a junk yard or something and get an EX model header. I have the LX model so that would be a good choice, right?

How hard is it to change the header? Are any special tools needed or is it just a bolt on?

As for exhaust, someone told me to get some cheap generic exhaust and get mandrel bending done to it and then get a muffler. Is that right? If so, can you reccomend some exhausts to use in the mandrel bending and some mufflers? In terms of mufflers I don't want a "fart can" but rather something that is a little quieter, maybe 2.25" to 2.5", but still be a step up from the stock exhaust.

Reading about the header will save me money, but where should I get an EX header?

What are some other cheap performance mods like headers that I can do?

Once I do the I/H/E and any other cheap performance mods, I'm going to work on suspension and wheels and tires. Does that sound good?

no lx headers are not as good.the ex headers perform just as good as the high priced dc sports header.the 4-2-1 is a good design.go with a used ex header or dc.it bolts right up but make sure you get a new gasket.also i would go with a cold air intake,less throttle response but i think better gains.with the short ram you'll have better throttle response because of straight air flow.then get the n1 exhaust.and you'll sound sick.oh ya junkyards around here always have ex headers(header),try a junkyard out.good luck,

apex'i doesn't make an n1 exhaust for my car, are there universal ones that will work? Also, on ebay they only had 4" ones, I want something smaller, like a 2.25 or 2.5

they dont?damn that sucks.i dont think you'll find universal ones that perform like the real deal,but look around,are you going for the more conservative stock tail pipe look?or the coffee can?

Not really sure, but I don't want something very loud or large. I'd prefer just by how it sounds a more conservative look though

well for a tail pipe i would go with the Ractive MT217c,i have seen somecb7's with it at races and they sound so damn good,and there not to drastic looking.around here they go for around $100-$115.00.check it out.

As for the exhaust though, was my friend right about getting some cheap generic exhaust and getting mandrel bending done to it? I don't really want to dump $600 for a Greddy exhaust for my car...

as far as exhaust,you can go with a generic exhaust with the mandrel bends,it would be cheaper than Greddy and you wont notice a huge difference from that and the greddy.greddy makes a super exhaust though but your right about the cost,its to damn high,i will probably be going with the generice exhaust with mandrel bends.

you should have the f22a1 if its stock or has not been changed over.cheap nolt on mods basically are cold air intake,gnerice cat back,d.c. or name brand header,i would get an ex one,and some pulleys,etc,but i am going with the h22 swap this summer.thats the way to go for performance for the buck.especially if your motors old.
