Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    header install, need motivation

so i bought the ebay header off of sulimed about a week ago and it just came in today. and coincidentally i have the day off also. i've just been too lazy to even attempt putting it on, and my next day off isn't until Friday, which i wont have the time to do it anyways. i know for a fact that the bolts on the downpipe->cat are rotted to shit and i dont even know where to start on how to get them off. besides being lazy, that is the main reason why im avoiding it right now. i doubt PB blaster will make it that much easier.

someone motivate me, give me some ideas for breaking loose those bolts, or come and help just kidding about the help, but motivation works for me

Ima big guy, my car is low, I have closterfobia. I just replaced the cat so I wouldnt have to try and get it off the downpipe sence im running a fairly new catback. I tryed to get the cat off... seriously I did. But it was winter and my car sat in a small melted spot in the ice so every time i got under it i was sitting in a pool of ice water with no way to get my self back out. Under a car sitting on jackstands ontop of a layer of ice that was letting the stands sink about a inch an hour.

The snow and Ice is gone, If you dont have time now, just buy a new cat and you wont have to deal with stuck bolts UNDER your car, where breaker bars are nearly useless if you cant move or dont have a realy nice jack that can get your car up high enuf. So there is some motivation, the weather is nicer, and it should be alot easyer for you than it was for me.
I cant Slam further. The ground refuses to get any lower.

            thanks

ok, i went under the car today to PB Blast the cat bolts. after soaking them, i went to test fit the socket. put a 14mm on it, twist, and guess what? it just turns, no bite at all, and rust chips falling to the ground. tried a 13mm after, twist by hand, feels like there's some bite. i left the PB on to soak over night, and then i'm going to use the 13mm and see what i can do in the morning

i'd try other way around, start from smaller socket up, that way you prevent stripping

You have a good tool set with six points and put full contact on the nut you wont have to worry about stripping.

tip: before you install the new header, paint it with some rustoleum high temp paint.

I had to take off the cat then try to wrench the damn thing off the front of it with PB and a 6 point socket.

( it was pretty funny now that I think of it, me with the cat and a downpipe still attached to it, trying to unbolt it in my front yard. )

well i did try a 12mm and it wouldnt fit, unless i probably tried banging it in. im gonna see how 13mm bites, and if all else fails, im just going to buy a new cat anyways and have a buddy of mine do it all.

oh btw, i have all craftsman tools

Same thing happened with the catalytic nuts. Here's what I did
-PB the shit outta the bolts and nuts and let them soak
-Grab a 6 point socket and hammer the shit outta it until it sits well on the rusted nut. Make sure the socket is the right size!!
-Take a breaker bar and twist the nuts off.

The most important step is making sure you hammer the socket just right or else you risk stripping the nut. If you have good tools, the socket should remain intact and almost completely unharmed.

                            ...adjust accordingly

is the bolt definitely supposed to be a 14mm? or is it a 13mm to begin with? or could it vary?
