The Cam is headin' out to Delta

Made up my mind finally this afternoon. After work, I came home, had a good dinner, threw on some rags and pulled the camshaft out of the old CB7. It's wrapped up and ready to go to Delta. I spoke with a sales tech about any possible F22A6 cores they may have that I could buy. They didn't have any so off to Washington state mine goes.

Hey Zig! It was a walk in the park! White out's great and the whole rocker arm assembly is in one oily piece waiting to be conjoined again.

Got a Skunk2 Cam Gear waiting in the wing.

    Just glad I could help...

You'll love the final result... if you can overlook the evil lope at idle... but one jaunt up to 7k in 3rd or 4th and I think you'll be overlooking it...

got your Pm on AT.. Had a question though... I'll try and catch you on AIM with it...

Well, got the cam back today. As soon as I got home from work, grabbed a nibble, changed into crap and installed the cam.

I said a little prayer and the car started. She idled quite nicely. Took her out onto the freeway and drove around a little bit. Parked for a couple of hours. Took her out again, and opened her up on the freeway. In 2nd I was hitting 65, in 3rd she was quickly coming up on 80 then all of a sudden she started bogging! Shifted to 4th and still things weren't sounding or acting right. Pulled off the freeway and stalled out at the light. She wouldn't start so I popped the hood and...STUPID ME!!!...I had forgotten to tighten the cam gear! Even though the car ended up fully retarded I was the retard behind the wheel.

Anyway, to make a long story short, got it back to a degree advanced and made sure I tightened the gear right nicely. Started her up and man I'm in love with how she sounds at idle. The clackity clack is not a bother at all to me. She still needs to get tuned but I may be getting that done tomorrow among "other things". Oh, is it nice!

      blah, blah, blah, blah....

I also have a delta 272 grind. I suggest you readjust that valves again. They will loosen up after the cam breaks in. I too have revved it up close to 7grand, and the power does not fall off. The 272 grind is an awesome nitrous cam. Rediculous gains when using juice with it. Hopefully it works well with my turbo, or i'll be selling the 272. As for adjustable cam gears, i would like to get one to fine tune this cam. This cam kills you lowend a lot. I would start with about 4degrees advanced and go from there. Oh, and one other thing. With the 272 cam you can advance your timing a lot and make more power. I found great power with 18degrees BTDC at idle. Just dont spray juice with it too far advanced, like i did... Detonated frying 1 plug. Since then i run 12degrees BTDC, and topend roars.

Right before I snapped a timing belt I had the chance to advance my cam gear about 2 degrees and that seemed to bring back quite a bit of lowend and it didn't noticably choke up to and including 7k or so...

I found the +2 cam advance and about 19 degrees BTDC ignition timing pretty drivable in the lowend, (alot better than 0 degree cam advance) and it still roared in the upper rpm's.... all the way to it's demise...

Although I didn't get to play with cam timing too much before it killed itself... stilll though.. I would've liked to try +4 since that's what Scott at Delta reccomended...

            Happy motoring...

Well, I was doing some work on the car (trying to get my full throttle switch in) when I experienced some sort of power spike. Don't know how, but anyway, my hondata is at the shop either going to be replaced (I do so hope it will if it's fried) or being revived. Down in the dumps about it. My P06 got fried in the process, no amount of chipping would get me past the backup tune. Even with the chip pulled it started up but still not letting me pass 4k.

Not to worry, I still had the P13/14 Prelude ECU. Popped that back in and wahoo! I'm a bit chipper. Took her out for a test run and man does she run!

Yeah, she doesn't jump like I was use to prior to the regrind. There's a bit of that bottom end missing. Have to find that sweep spot again.

I'm going to be experimenting with the timing. I'll start out with the 4+ and let ya know.

I noticed the same thing with my 272. From idle to about 3500rpm i definatly lost a lot of responsiveness, torque and power, but the gains from 4k up is well worth it. Advancing the timing definatly gives you back some of that lowend responsiveness you lost.

I have some headwork done to help the cam, but the idle is very lopey. The idle sound also has a ton more bass. Definetly sounds nothing like a stock cam. Even throughout the rev range, the tone of the engine changed completly.
