    Air Intake

    Ok guys here's my situation.

I had an f22a not so long ago and I had an AEM short ram intake on it. Now im swapped to H22A and tried (actually am) using that same intake. The thing is the sleeve that connects the intake to the throttle body doesnt really fit. We stretched it and forced it to fit but its on there along with the intake. Now recently i have seen the prelude version of the intake and that sleeve and intake pipe is noticeably bigger to allow more airflow i guess.

With all that being said my questions are:

    1. Am i restricting airflow into my motor using that accord intake?

    and

    2. Will i notice a gain switching to a prelude intake?

the accord intake is a 2.5" od...with a preludemotor id highly suggest something 3" in diameter piping so yes, an aem for a prelude will fit and net more hp.

would a lude intake make more power? probably.

would it be noticeable? probably not...

perhaps there might be somewhere better for that money to go, instead of a better intake?

Yeah ok thats kinda what i was thinking. Cause im like if the prelude one is bigger it must be for a reason!

Heres a pic stolen from 93twodoorLX that shows what im talking about.
See the bulge around the sleeve that connects from the intake tube to the throttle body? Thats how mine looks and although its ok i guess ive been pondering this question since my swap.

a good intake can net you up to 5whp, that should be noticable!

JDM prelude intake inlet is 2.75 while the accor dis 2.5 as stated above. Custom is always better.

So i took my accord aem intake off and replaced it with the stock prelude intake pipe and aem filter on the end. Its a pretty noticeable difference. The car pulls a little harder in the top end now.

Were you using the stock boxes?

I swapped in an h23 TB, and I want to keep a stock airbox, but the accord tube doesn't quite fit right, well, its too small.

I'm thinking about finding an h23 stock air intake at a junkyard, but it'd be easiest if I could just take the tube...

Doesn't seem like it would make much of a diff. As long as it is the same size or bigger than the tb you honestly can't restrict much air. It is always arguable how much an intake adds but as far as I can tell a stock intake with clean filter is just as good as an aftermarket. I care mostly for butt dyno these days. 3 or 4 hp isn't much diff. If you can feel the diff with the stock prelude pipe then more powa to ya. Must be better.

Just like my sig says though...

but 3 or 4 mods that net you 3 or 4 hp each won't feel like much by themselves.

altogether, that 9-16hp would definitely be felt.

I did that too, I had to slit the tube where it meets the TB just to get the mofo to fit on there. But you can tell the rest of the tubing is smaller because it mushrooms where it meets the TB.

I'm sure preludes use a different airbox setup though and I don't think the prelude air tube is the same length and curve as the accords, nor would it necessarily have all the stock connectors, BUT I'd like to get a hold of one at the junkyard and try it.

Unfortunately, nearly all the preludes at my yard have f22a1's or no engine...

Hey guys just an update for those that dont know I switched my intake setup again. Now im rockin a generic ebay cold air intake and im pretty satisfied with it but for sure the accord intake was way too small.
