From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

    Tranny Question

I'm almost finished with my tranny swap. Today I was looking for everything to work properly so I started shifting gears. It's dry shifting because I have to put the fluids in it. Now it seems like my 5th gear and Reverse aren't working. I can't get them in their gear. So do I have to start my car up for having oil pressure on the tranny so these 2 gears will work or could there be something wrong?

I did get a whole set of cables, stick and frame, and the bracket on the tranny from 1 and the same car.

Can somebody help me with this?

Do you have any oil in the tranny now?

No, not yet. I thought I would test it first before I throw oil in it.

I would definetly put oil in the tranny. Check that first.

put oil in there and roll the car in neutral to move the differential a little, or if its in the air, turn it with the half shaft. try it again with the clutch pedal pressed in

And then it should shift through the gears?

No, that's ok. It's an old pic
Nothing external is jamming it. But thanks for your comment

there is no oil "pressure" in the tranny its a splash/oil bath lubrication setup.
Things that come to mind if poorly routed shifter cables, a stretched shifter cable (seen that before though its usually losing 1,3,5 or 2,4,R), or lastly an internal problem with the tranny. putting oil may help and is worth a try for sure though.
