The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Converting from internal to external waste gate

Does anyone know exactly how to go from an internal waste gate to an external waste gate? What parts do i need? do you just weld the old waste gate shut?

Sealing the wastegate passage inside the turbo up.
Finding a manifold that has an external WG flange.
        Finding an external WG.
        Seal and install said parts.
        Enjoy.

Take off the actuator and weld the flapper shut.

                What mani do you have?

I converted to external wg on a dsm o2 housing. It required getting an o2 housing that had an atmospheric dump.

                Cuttin off said dump.

Removing the internal flapper and external wg actuator.

Fab up a pipe to go to your external wg. Port out the area on the turbo going to the wg.

I had to convert to a civic half radiator as well.

best of luck, this was for a dsm mani and housing.

i was going to do this setup as well but i was informed that the wastegate is supposed to be before the turbo and not after the turbo. any reason someone would be telling me this b/c u don't seem to be having any trouble controlling boost do u

Well, the ports to the turbine and to the standard wg dump spot are essentially the same on a dsm turbo/o2 housing.

Either will work, but putting it before the turbo would work better in theory, but I have 0 issues with controlling boost now.

The air coming out of the motor is going to take the path of least resistance to get out, so if your ports to the wg suck before, or at the turbo, it will suck for controlling boost and it will creep. You also never want to go off of just one cylinder either, you want to divert the air from all 4 cylinders.

Thanks man! I remember looking at straightedge's turbo setup and thinking, fuck, I want that!

I got close to it I think, but it took a minute.

My setup is hopefully dramatically changing for the better here in a month or so. Cross your fingers kiddos.
