Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    My Uber-budget turbo build

Hey guys! So it's been like a few years since i've been on here. But this is where I learned EVERYTHING about a budget turbo setup. I had a 93 LX turbo that I loved...that was until the head lifted (14psi on stock block?) and it leaked coolant, and then it was stolen.

Not sure why the head lifted or maybe i just blew the head gasket, but compression was still ok. It just burned a little coolant.

    Anyways onto my new project!

My maxima has transmission problems, so while i'm rebuilding it, i decided to get a good beater. non other than the beautious cb7. I found one for $500 that needs a new motor. So, I figured why not make it a fast beater and see how cheap I can do it!

Here's my parts list so far and Costs spent. (all cdn funds)

    $500 91 5spd LX
    $300 JDM f22a

    Turbo parts:
    450cc injectors - $55 shipped
    P06 Ecu - $30 (wrecker)
    - Socket, resistor, etc to chip it ($14)
    - Datalogger, USB to TTL converter on ebay $15 US
2G DSM manifold ($25, local...had it for years though, so free)
    14b turbo/o2 housing/DP/J-pipe - $180 (rebuilt recently)
ceramic clutch disk (the stage 3 XTD i had was great for the money. However, the PP was basically stock, so I figured i'd just get a new high friction disk and resurface the flywheel.) $80 (ebay)
Oil lines ($39US shipped on Honda-tech). Drain = DIY, rubber hose on stock drain + Barbed fitting welded to pan - $10)
Charge lines - ABS pipe from construction site i work at = Free, Glue/ rubber couplers = $20
Intercooler - Free from friend (Saab 900 IC). regardless of what people tell you. For 8 - 10 PSI you really don't need a HUGE IC. something small will work fine and keep response up.
2.5 MAP Sensor (Owned, but usually like $17)
    Boost gauge - $20
    1g BOV - $20

And there you have it. A Budget turbo kit to the tune of about $520 CDN.
Debated costs are another $75 for a cheap water pump timing belt kit for the new engine.

Total costs are going to be in and around $1500.

To be fair, i have access to some other parts (friends) that make it possible to save costs. I own a wideband that i'll use to do rough street tune (fuel only, conservative Timing), as well as a chip burner.

But overall, I'm excited. I'll keep you guys posted on the progress!

Could to see you back around!

You'll be glad to know that I still haven't even touched that nipple-less 3bar map sensor I discussed with you years ago, haha.

Good to hear. I don't touch anything without nice nipples.

A head will definatly not lift on a stock block with only 14psi. most honda guys dont experience head lift until well over 28-30psi and thats only with very large turbos and even then head rarely lift. Your headgasket was more likely your cause of failure.

ARP head studs probably would not hurt or make sure your OEM head screws are tightened appropriately if turbo90accord's statement is true. I'd like a new OEM headgasket in there regardless, as you don't know the history of the engine you have unless you buy from a trusted/familiar seller.

Well good to know about the head lift issue. Guess it was just a head gasket.
Anyways, that was my old turbo setup:

New one will just be for a little extra power and the fun of the install. I really miss the project.
