Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    Gutting MHI 16g Turbo

before I attempt this wondering some fellow boosted thoughts!!!

I have a blown turbo waiting to buy another one. It is a MHI big 16g.
I have never been inside a turbo but since mine is blown this is my chance.
Can I gut my turbo basically using it as a exhaust pipe until I get my new turbo, aka, removing exhaust compressor and all?
would I need to block the intake inlet (pre turbo filter) since this would be open?

things I know I need to do:
-block my oil feed and return.
-block the intake outlet (to intercooler)
    -setup Intake
    -retune

    just wondering. thanks in advance!

      why yes. You can.

So I was thinking about the exact same thing only I'm in a little bit of a different situation. I didn't want to make some sort of wacky N/A down pipe to 3" exhaust thing when my plans are to boost eventually. So how do you make one down pipe and still be N/A?

A round 1/4'' beveled piece of steel.

I custom made mine, no one makes them. PERIOD! I had to cut out a close circle from a square plate and then grind down the edges slowly to get it perfectly circular. Then I had to bevel the edges a little bit at a time to make the plate mate to the exhaust housing. IF you have the exhaust housing of your 16G bolted up to your manifold, you can undo the bold V-band clamp, take the turbo core and compressor housing assembly out of the exhaust housing, and slip this plate in. Redo your V-band clamp and VOILA!

I'll get some pictures of it up tonight or tomorrow if you like.

All of a sudden I don't feel like a noob anymore

I just noticed I had a picture on my phone so I quick put it up on my computer at home. Here you go. I have more but you get the idea.

OH! also I figured that I would keep the wastegate closed with a spring off of a drum brake kit. I don't think it would take a lot of force but it would be kinda neat if the exhaust pressure would just overcome the spring at around 5K to open the waste gate so even though its not turbo charged, it would still surprise people. you would just have to connect the spring from the wastegate to the V-Band clamp bolt.

awesome. did not even think about it.

basically, I could remove the intake compressor side.
weld a plate (I am thinking something permanent).
keep the wastegate flapper closed (is this necessary?)
and hook up the exhaust side.

am I missing anything of that portion?

I think it would be easier and faster if you just clamped it in there with the V band clamp. Even though it's not permanent, it will still do the trick and will be in until you take it out. And yeah the wastegate would just flap around unless you either tie it shut or spring it closed.
