    smaller crank?

ok so in my old boosted d16z6 civic. i had 9:1 piston set up. and wanted to lay more boost than the 20lbs i had so my buddy told me to park it in his garage for the week end and come back on monday. when i got back the only visable mod he had done was a better turbo mani. BUT. i was at 29 lbs. and it ran like a champ, and i could not figure it out. he told me that he replaced the 1.6 crank with a 1.5 crank. i didnt think they were any diffrent. but he said that it made it a 8:1 compression. but i guess i was wrong!

was there a f22 that has a smaller crank?

you can put a crank with a smaller stroke in an f22. I personally would not do it.

Thats pretty impressive that your buddy tore down the motor, sized bearings, and rebuilt the motor and installed it in one weekend......

no dude this guy is a god when it comes to d-series and b-series. his old gsr was stock and in two days in he was at 11:1 compression driving around. and it started up right away every time.

but any way. in theroy this could work?

Really? a honda god who can build such an engine in a weekend??? NO WAY!!!

11 to 1 comp and on pump gas to??? OMG! ^@%^#@^# i humbly bow to this master!

wouldn't a smaller crank require new pistons.
travel is gunna change, or would that just lower compression?

            thus helping the boost.

well you can put an f22 crank and rods in an h22 to increase stroke/compression.
why not try to put an h22 crank and rods in and f22.

              be creative. be a hero.

so this guy took out your motor and disassembled it, cleaned it, hopefully micropolished the crank, then bought new rod and main bearings(hopefully not from autozone, advanced, o'reilys) new rear main seal and front crank seal.
then he actually checked the clearances for all the mains and rods. and after all of this he put it back in the car and had it ready for you on monday
how much did this cost you if you don't mind me asking b/c it should have cost a reasonable amount with everything that should have been done

i don't like to say people are pulling other peoples leg but is there any proof that he did any of this(not saying the guy isn't capable of doing such things) but i seems a bit unrealistic that this was done in a weekend

One of the guys on our racing team built our competition engine in a day and a half, stayed up all night, and had it on the dyno running by the second night. Its possible...just saying.

I know guys who can pull one motor out and swap another one back in all in one day...I know an old school mechanic that would pull an engine out in the first of the day and replace the engine before 5pm same day...I know some guys that can do this twice in one day...but it is with civics and bare bones engine bay.

Rebuilding and engine in one day...I call supreme bullshit...not impossible...but if someone told me they did that in one day, I would NOT want them to ever touch my car.

i can build a motor in 4 hours, it's not dificult if you know whatt you are doing. R&R a honda engine is about 10 hours or less.

so theoretically, there's 24 hours in a day. it can be done.

He also could have had help, or he could just be that good. There's a "swap specialist" at the shop I goto who if time is a factor can have any car swapped in 4-6 hours as long as it's nothing extreme; like a k swap or v6 or something. When I was having my intake manifold and exhaust modified in the bay next to him, I saw him swap an EVO engine and as I was leaving the shop he was taking it for a test drive.

Then, when I needed my H22 refreshed because I wanted to prepare it for more power, the shop owner had it done in the same day. He didn't start on it til 1pm, but I still picked up my car at 6:30 when they closed.

But like wed3k said some people can do swaps in 10hrs or less. I'll say he took maybe 7-9. It's seems more than likely he already had the parts needed for the rebuild, if not he had hookups that got him what he needed VERY fast; within maybe 2 hours or less. And let's say he built the engine in another 4-7 hours. That's only 19 hours. And I'm sure he stopped to sleep a little and eat so add on maybe another 15 hours. Total that's only 34 hours. In a weekend there are 72 hours. So 72-32 leaves 38 hours leftover in which he could still be working on the car, eating, sleeping, getting a handjob from his girlfriend, or whatever. Don't call bullshit for something just because you can't do it yourself or know someone who can.

                          it could be done.

pull motor and tranny out. unbolt tranny. throw the engine on a engine stand. take off serpentine belt. pull off valve cover. unbolt the head bolts. take head off. take off timing cover, loosen the tensioner and take the belt off. .flip the motor over. take off oil pan, oil pick up tub. unbolt the crank bolts and rod bolts. take pistons and rods out. pull the crank holders out. pull crank out. done.

inspect new crank and pistons. if no wear, their good to go. order overnight bearings and main seal from honda on friday while you work on this project on saturday. run to the honda dealer the next day and pick up bearings. go to a autoparts store and pick up engine assembly lube. put new crank bearings in and crank. put pick up tube in. put the rings in the block and check the gap. if they hit the specs their good. put pistons and rods in with new bearings. put down the holders, torque them. put new crank seal in. put the head on with a new headgasket. torque the head bolts down. slide the timing belt on and adjust timing and tighten the belt. put the timing cover on. put the serpentine belt back on. and done. slide the motor in and start her up.

if you woke up at 7 in the morning by 1am you should have it running. its very possible.

theres somewhere on youtube where titan motorsports supra motors breaks at a competition day and they take the motor out and tear it down and fix it and put it back together, put it in the car in like 2 hrs

i had already bought new pistons and rods for a bigger boost build. so he came by and grabed them. so what kind of compression would h22 pistons and rods make?

I don't think the argument, from me at least, is that it is not possible to build an engine in one day. I think the argument is that this sounds like a load of shit.

To the op: If you are interested in destroking a f22 for a boost build, you can use h22 crank and rods and you might want to go ahead and get custom pistons so your compression height, compression ratio, and boar will be what you need.
