Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    Turbo Selection Guidance

    Hi All,

I'm having some difficulty selecting a turbo for my stock H22. I can't seem to figure out what I need to know to make a wise selection. My budget is <$1000.

    One model I've seen in particular is a Precision 6031 T3/T4 59m Inducer/ T31 turbine wheel/ .63a/r. It is also journal bearing.

Is this a good model for a low boost stock H22? Will the turbo "keep up" with the motor without being unnecessarily taxed? If this is a bad model, do you have any recommendations on a better unit?

    Thanks

Is your budget $1000 for just the turbo or the whole build?
Are you just planning to install this turbo on the stock internals or are you rebuilding the engine?

You realize this engine has FRM sleeves and if your going to run aftermarket pistons (which you should be doing if your turbo'ing anyways) you have to resleeve the block unless you buy the one type of pistons that support FRM sleeves?

There is a lot of questions needed to be asked and more information is needed to really help you out.

For that turbocharger unit, it seems different but I have no experience with Precision.
I can definitly recommend a Turbonectics unit. Also I would recommend a ball bearing unit, it's a little bit more but will spool a lot faster.

This I would go for and is similar.

EDIT: On rule any T3, T4, or T3/T4 style turbo is a good size for our cars. But there our other numbers to make sure that are correct. Such as the A/R.

Yes I do know the H22 has FRM sleeves. No pistons. Stock internals.

Like what? I'd be happy to answer any other questions if it will help anyone in choosing a turbo.

I gave the A/R and other numbers in my original post. I would like to stick to something with a T3 flange as I already have a manifold.
My problem is I don't know enough about reading the specs and requirements to be confident I've made a good choice. So I feel I've made a decent choice however before I pull the trigger I would like it if someone with more experience can either give a "yay" or "nay" and if it's a nay give me a recommendation.

Very mild. 250-300 I would say.

              Thanks Larry.

If you're recommending this turbo what are the optimal specs I should be ordering in terms of compressor trim and turbine housing? 60 Trim with the .63A/R I'm guessing

Also how would you compare it to the Precision model?

The best thing to do is learn how to read turbo flow graphs. You're aware that you don't know enough to make a wise selection, but you don't know if someone else that gives you advice knows any better than you do (though I'd trust that Larry knows a thing or two...)

You're boosting a stock-internal H22A? Keep in mind that you will more likely than not break a ringland. Given the age of the H22, it may be sooner than later... especially if it's the same H22 that you've had in your car (because I know you drive that thing like it's meant to be driven!) When you blow a ringland, not only will the motor be toast... but it'll be dumping oil into your exhaust... which means into your turbo. That could result in the need to take the turbo apart to clean/rebuild it. If you're going to spend $1000 on the turbo alone, I'd suggest dropping another chunk of cash to install some Mahle Gold Series pistons. For your power goals, the stock FRM sleeves will be plenty strong enough, so the Mahle pistons should suffice.

I've picked what I thought would work but I know there are some "gurus" here that can give their .02 cents

Not at all worried that the motor could go... just looking for a good time.

True. I'm just saying that without your own knowledge, you won't know if the person giving you advice actually knows what they're talking about! (I probably don't know any more than you do... which is why I'm refraining from offering specific turbo advice myself!

Id say any .50 trim t3/t4 running 8psi on a stock block will be perfect....So exhaust .57AR....And compressor .50AR.....It will spool quick cause of the compression and no lag.....I wouldnt run over 8psi on a stock H....You will have a decent setup with a 50trim and decent running......Go to Xenocron and get you injectors and fuel pump combo.....
Only give advice when I know or have done it and it worked

                        my new turbo build

I already have a walbro 255 unit and I'm going with DSM injectors. Are you sure about this turbo working well with an h22? The reason I ask is that it seems quite a bit smaller than what I was looking at initially and also smaller than what oneoffaccord recommended.

Dsm 450s are fine I was just suggesting a good and cheap place to get your injectors and fuel pump,Thats all bro....I think for precison injetors and walbro 255 is under 300buks....Anyway If you plan on stayin or buyin the turbo you we're askin about yeah it will be okay....Its good up to 600hp and still only a entry level!!!!!!!!!But it will not be to small if thats what you worried about....May have a little lag but tune the v-tec down and roll wit it..............If you go with the turbo size I said then yes im sure it will be Good with Dsm injectors yes plenty...Turbo will be good up to 450hp....On a stock block a 50 trim will be great...Smaller turbo=less lag=Hp faster.....LOL.....All up to you now bro good luck.....Happy boosting

Chris are you running stock cams? I remember you were on S2 S2s... I would change those back to stock

Alvin just built a turbo motor last year, you should holler at him.

Just going from the gut, I would say your best fit would be a small 16G. It makes about the same power you are looking for at about the level of boost you are looking at on about the same size engine you have.
