Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    Realistic expectations for build?

    Hello everyone.

I drive a CB7/h22a daily, but have recently noticed engine knocking. It reminds me of my very first car and the noise it made before the engine seized up.

So, I'm doing my homework ahead of time. I know an intermediate amount of stuff about NA engines and what they can do and what I can expect from them. I know a fair bit about brakes, suspension and the like, but my knowlege of forced induction setups is beginner at best. I've done some reading, but still have more questions than answers.

I know that the H22A has a high compression ratio and that this complicates turbocharging efforts. I know that the FRM cylinder walls don't play well with the lower compression alu. pistons I'd need to fix the compression ratio. I don't know what the H22's squish zone or whatever, is like. I know that Crower makes a turbo cam for the H, and that, according to Crower tech support, the cam would give a 60-80hp advantage over a stock cam at 10psi. I'm guessing this is because the high overlap on the VTEC lobes would be counterproductive - that the boost would essentially flow *through* the engine, right into the exhaust...? I've heard that the H22 is an OK engine to turbocharge, but really doesn't hold a candle, even after a complete rebuild/buildup, to a stock 4G63 or EJ20 or SR20DET, etc, let alone a built engine like that...

Sorry for the long post so far... I guess my question is, can the H22 be turned into a good turbo'able engine, or is it not worth the money? I just don't want to go NA, spend thousands of dollars just to get 30 more hp and almost no torque... AND, if I'm spending thousands and thousands of dollars for FI, I'm not sure if I'd want to be stuck with a potentially unreliable monster.

    Thoughts?

Well its like this when your aiming for more power you have to invest. A stock motor to push some good numbers isnt really all that great. I say start from scratch that way its fresh and you want it to last for a decent amount of time as long as possible. Any motor almost in stock boost form being 10years old or more or less is bound to have a problem down the line sooner or later compared to a virgin built motor. Any kind of speed invested to the motor is a good investment its depends on how much your willing to spend.

Once you mod any motor for serious speed you have to consider the fact that you have or opened the block up yourself that you just let all the reliable faries out and that theres no guarantee that it will last built or not, its the luck of the draw and how well you spot shit early and try to asess the situation aswell as who built it. And tuning is the key.
