Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    Compression and Turbo

I've searched around and come up with the following: lower compression = better turboism or something like that. Heres my debate (that Im sure some of you are sick of )

I've got a f22a6 with around 170k miles on it. Im thinking of swapping a f22b and turboing it. But from what I've heard it might just be better to turbo the a6 because of the lower compression. Im thinking that lower compression = less detonation = ability to push more PSI???

Also...I've already got a 5sp tranny, it shifts fairly smooth. With the swap I can get tranny/motor for around 700 I can get motor only for around 400...If Im planning on getting upgraded clutch and whatnot anyway...should I have to drop the extra loot for the new tranny as well?

Thanks to anyone helping a newb out

why hassle yourself with a swap and its potential problems, when your current motor is healthy and perfect for boost. No brainer it seems...

Detonation is dependant on more factors than just static compression. A motor with a higher compression ratio isn't more prone to detonation if its not exceeding its available octane limit. 93 octane has been known to run on 11:1 comp engines at 7-8psi. But yes, lower compression is less likely to detonate at the same boost level and conditions. But if tuned properly you'll be fine.

More compression less room for error, lower compression more room for error to a certain extent. In the meantime tuning is key depending on the motors condition of what its been through. Just to be on the safe side build it

See thats one of the things IM struggling with. R33accord is leadin me in the direction of turboing my current motor. Its sittin now at 169k on it and if I build the car want to be able to drive it for another 10 years if I want to. Starting with a number that high is kinda rough on me. On the other hand its gonna be like 800 for the swap, which I PLAN on doing myself to save money on. Supposely has 30-40k miles on it and comes with a new tranny. Also its rated at 20 hp stronger than my engine. I want to save money but I dont want to take the "cheap route" if that makes sense.

I tell you one thing its gonna cost alotmore than jsut 700 to do what he wants to do with that motor especialy building it. I say wait and save a lil bit more as a safety cushion for a rainy day.

JDM power! The compressoin difference is not going to be a huge factor between the motors. It's like .4. Which can be considered a great deal difference, but you could push 10psi on a mid size turbo easily without problems. MRX covered the detonation, and the f22b doesn't make much more power then the f22a with the same turbo setup. I think I could top r33's numbers if I could tune ignition. It's up to you, I say put the turbo setup on your current accord, buy a spare block and build that.
