Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

    Water sprayed intercooler

Someone made a thread a little bit ago about water sprayed intercoolers, and i read the article in some car magazine about a cheap watercooled intercooler, so I'm gonna go ahead and see how well it works out doing it home made. So here's the list:

4 water nozzles- 1/4" inlets sprays 1/4 circle, 4 of these should do the trick.
20ft 1/4" vinyl tubing- will be used to route water from resevoir
windshield washer pump/resevoir- will be used to hold and pump out the water, I'm gonna rewire it to a different switch so it has continous flow.
    mounting brackets

so far I've spent $23, and I'm almost done buying everything. I bought the nozzles, tubing, new pump and that ran me $23. Of course you could reuse your current pump, but mine was burnt out. Hope fully this should go quite easy. What do you guys think?

why not spray it with something cold? like nitrous or CO2

cuz water is really really cheap.

this is way cheaper. im using plastic fittings and such, wouldn't work with n2o or co2. I'm just doing this for fun, I'm probably gonna hop on the dyno sometime in the next couple of months and see what i'm making again with exhaust, watersprayed and 10psi

Water retains heat, once the water is hot it will stay hot, how do you plan on keeping it cold?

as long as the resevoir is away from the direct exhaust/engine, it will stay cooler than the charged air...and youll get a cooling effect.

Wonder if during drag days or dyno days you could drop an ice cube or 5 in the reservoir and see if it makes a difference. In theory I would think it would but not sure if it would all truly be worth it depending on actual gains. I'd be interested to see how it all turns out from a performance standpoint.

why not just freeze the resevoir the day before so when you put it in, it melts gradually, but still gives cold water? i doubt it would make a difference, just a thought...

the plastic will brake as the ice starts to heat up.

how so? freeze it with the lid off so the ice doesnt explode the container, but dont fill it all the way to the top...as it melts, it simply gets smaller

I like the ice cube idea better because at least you know the water in the actual reservoir is at least in in a liquid state. Freezing it entirely may give intermittent results. Although now that I think about it I guess freezing it could work too since the engine bay is so hot that the reservoir would probably melt most of the ice by the time you get on the track.

ice is a good idea, I'm looking to either have the resevoir in the same location as the windhsield washer one, or in the stock location of the batter, both places are away from most of the engines heat. This isn't an everyday use kinda thing, this is like hey I'm going out tonight to the track or to race, I'll fill up the resevoir, otherwise it's gonna be a little above outside temps. It would still help, but the gains wouldn't e anywhere near as significant.

This is giving me a reason to dyno again, the only changes will be a 3in catback exhaust, boost creep to 10psi(which i believe happened in the last dyno), and the watersprayer. This is just something for fun and I am curious to the performance gain. This would also be great for long trips on the highway and such.

for the resevoir, i think I'll make a heatshield of sort and see how much i can seclude this from the turbo's heat. I'll work on it tomorrow, assuming I can find where I put my windshield washer resevoir

i rigged a gatorade bottle to the Fluid pump, filled it with water, and pulled the nozzle tubing (the ones clipped to the hood) and routed it to the intercooler so that it would spray it.... pretty much a ghettorigged version of your setup... the only problem is the wipers go off when you want to spray... so a new switch is in the works...

why cant you just locate the water bottle in the trunk and run the 20 feet of tubing to the engine bay? I was thinking about doing this a while ago, it is a good idea, the new stis do it dont they
