From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

    M.I.D. sleeve vs open sleeve

i was on the darton website looking at prices of sleeves for the h22...i saw that they had two options for sleeves the M.I.D. sleeve and the open sleeve...there is quite a bit of price difference between the two... the M.I.D. being $250 and the open being $650...i was just wondering what the differnce was between M.I.D. sleeves and open sleeves? i searched but couldnt really find anything...

I'd like to know where you found those prices, and if they were for all sleeves or individual ones. The reason I'd like to know where is because I think that pricing is rather skewed...generally Darton MID sleeves run about $200-$250 each and the standard (slightly heavier duty) stock style sleeves are about $65-$80each.

As for which ones are better, I'd say if you're going to spend the money, just get the best, Darton MID sleeves, they'll handle all the power you could ever imagine. But that's just me...but, if you're ambition isn't that high, or your wallet not that deep, just sleeve it with Iron stock replacement style sleeves (i.e. the cheaper ones) They're good for moderate boost/hp.

Edit- I noticed that you said you were on the Darton website, I shall investigate. This seems odd to me.

On Raceeng.com Darton sleeve prices are listed as:
      MID sleeve kit- $600 (Set)
      Flanged sleeves- $58 (each)
      Stock replacement sleeves- $41 (each)

Just FYI, that's what I found.

Mid sleeves is for better cooling of the engine or heat distribution among all pistons.

Any good machine shop should be able to install new sleeves, no replacement sleeves that I know of are FRM. And it is because of the specialized process needed to machine FRM sleeves, that all aftermarket sleeves are made from iron.

As for the difference between "Flanged" & "Stock".

The stock would be used with the OEM style open-deck block and be made of iron.

The flanged sleeves are similar to having a built in blockguard, the flanges are snugged against the block for better strength. Similar to the MID sleeves, but still open deck.

and MAKE SURE you hire a COMPETENT machine shop.

Wouldn't is also matter if the h22 is an h22 or an h22a4. I know the h22 are a solid block and the a4 is a more open design.
