11:1 Comp. ratio - What NGK spk plug?

Our F22A1 engines run 8.8:1 C/R stock. I am planning on building this engine up completely NA to a 11:1 C/R. I also plan on installing a MSD SCI-L ignition system probably with an aftermarket ext. coil as well, & NGK 7 mm wires.

Now, what NGK spark plug do I use? Stock or go colder. If so, can anyone give me a specific spark plug # of what I'll need?

    Thanks.

The H22s (late) use PZFR6F-11, versus the stock ZFR5F-11 for the F22a/b. It's the same design, just one heat range cooler. You can use any variation, I.E. Copper, Platinum, Iridium. Hey, let me know if you want some, Because I can get very good prices on the NGK plugs.

How much power are we CB7 owners looking at if we go to 11:1 compression(with all the supporting mods). I kind of want to build up the F22 to be unique. I will probably go with the H22, but I was wondering how the powerband would be and how the overall power would be with 11:1 compression on a F22.

Ok. I am 99% sure I'm going with the H22, but just the thought of bying a block from a junkyard, building it up, then putting it in gets me thinking sometimes.

Very true. I know I am going with the H22, but I think it's my "being unique" side coming out and wanting to see how far I can push a F22. But, I already have my list for the H22, so I'm going with that(I'm addicted to VTEC, what can I say?)

Well, I got a great deal on this F22A1 engine that's in working condition for only $100. It has 110,000 miles on it and came with the 5 spd tranny as well & ECU. Given I don't need the 5 spd tranny or F22A1 ECU, but...I'm thinking about taking apart the tranny just to see how it works and maybe later down the road might think of putting LSD...who knows...then I'll know how to install it. Just an idea.

As for the A1 engine... I just want to rebuild it with more performance then stock and do as much myself, learn from it and have fun with it. It'll be NA and 11:1 compression ratio with some more tweaking. I'll keep you all posted and take pics. It'll be a fun daily driver and see occasional autocrossin/track use.

I've also been told NGK BKR7E race plugs would work....i'm thinking of going PZFR6F-11 first then these later for kicks....see which performs better or if there's a diff at all.

I have had the best luck with these for high compression: PZFR7F-11

You can find my set-up in the member rides area or on my site. As far as my background and knowledge.... Hmmm that is a litlle harder. I guess I have been blessed. I started working on Porsches for a period of time (I still own a 911) I built my first engine during that time. After that I ended up getting in to Honda's out of Neccessity and decided that the Honda platform was pretty cool. After having 2 engine blow from the same builder, I decided to do it myself. I found lots of room for improvement. PM me if you have a specific question.

                      These plugs mentioned are platinum.

why go platinum if I'm not going for longevity on plugs but better a better conductor like copper?

Honestly, I like the copper NGK plugs in the 7 heat range, but in my case I find the the electrode wear very quick. That is why I went to the Platinum (harder) material.

How quick we talking here in terms of mileage?

But I see your point. If you give me low mileage #'s I'll think about doing platinum....but even then, aren't iridium plugs supposed to be better? How long do they last?

I was finding that they showed excessive wear at every oil change... I would say that 3000 miles or so. Even still, Copper is cheaper for sure. It is the heat range that seems to work great. I am sure that some engine set-ups won't be as hard as mine... Plus my driving style is that of a madman. Irridiums are harder... supposedly better, but finding them in that heat range may be a problem.
