Omni Coilovers! Do I need adjustability?

    http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthre...4&page=2&pp=15

Would'nt it be a great advantage to have dampening adjustable coilovers as opposed to these nonadjustable ones?
Someone please explain. I'm in the market for coilovers (I have a stock setup now, only with GR-2's). I have done 1 autox, and would like to get more involved. But my car is also daily driver taking me to school and work. Will these fit the bill for a good suspention?
Is there another setup that someone could recommend? Any and all comments and sugestion are greatly appreciated because I want to learn all that I can listening is the cheapest form of experiance!

    Thanks again, Daniel Cameron

daily driver + track car is a bad idea. the spring rates on the omnipower coilovers i believe are 10k/12k. i personally ride on koni yellows and skunk coilovers 10k/10k and they're too stiff for the roads around here. if u're willing to feel the bumps and prepared to wipe out in the snow or rain go for it i suppose, just becareful on the roads, dont do any mad turns like i do, haha....

i lovem them... and the stiffness on the freeway, i dont mind at all. theyre especially great for the price. i would get the sports if i were you. its always better to have it a little too stiff. rather than pay all that money and ave them not be stiff enough.

and actually... i noticed better traction in the rain. i still lose traction like nothing, but with these, it was easier to regain.

So the higher sping rate is better in your op Dr Loves Ku Dang?

Does a stiff suspention make me lose tracktion on wet road surfaces?

My Brothers Sentra SE-R with H&R, AGX rides really rough. Everytime we hit a small bump that I wouldn't have felt in the stock accord is like a huge *Thump!*. So DOES a stiff suspention actually IMPROVE handling?! My brother has to slow down for every stupid bump in the road and its purely annoying.

        HELP!

depends what your budget is...i'm daily driving and autox my car with the omnis (10kg f , 12kg r)...i don't mind the ride althought the roads here aren't too bad...could be better but i've seen worse...alot worse...

if i were on a higher budget, i would opt for revalved and shortened konis and run around the same rates as omnis (would probably play with like 600f and 800r or something)..but to me that price plus sleeves would be astronomical...

if you want other options...let us know your budget...can't help unless we know what you want to work with

your brother's sentra will behave differently than ours...depending on which hnr's he has (race or sport) it's understandable...general rule is a macpherson strut setup (what sentras use) will transmit close to 90-99% of the spring rates because it has whole lot less parts in its suspension geometry...double wishbone (what we use although some people tend to disagree even though it's stated in the haynes manual) will transmit about 40% of the spring rate (of course these percentages are the general rule...every car will be different and you can start measuring a whole bunch of shit if you really want to know how much percentage of the spring rates your car will transmit) so you'll notice a softer ride in a double wishbone as opposed to a macpherson strut given the same spring rates

i have the omni streets and they handle like they're on rails. they are extremely rough, but not as rough as the sports. the thing i love is the car is always planted on the road, over hills, bumps, whatever. also it doesn't look like a caddy when u go over a bump since the springs have less than 1-2" of play. you will have MUCH better handling whichever way you go....btw i raised the rear up a little...:-) my wheelwells are 23 1/2" off the ground. also if u go low...prepare for at least 1* negative camber in the front with a camber kit due to the control arm, and you'll have to cut a hole for it. neway.....gl
edit: btw get them from kteller.com he just replaced one of mine due to a defect when i attempted to preload the shock...the nylon lock nut was totally seized...great service from omnipower and kteller....also when you lower the car you dont compress the spring, you rotate the shock mount....which imo will not affect anything as far as stress on shock and longevity of the coilover..can you say that about teins? (durability or service) nope.

i've yet to see any coilover or coilover sleeve where you lower the car by compressing the spring

why don't you let me know what company makes a design where you have to compress the spring to lower the car...because i've yet to find one...seeing how you made the point that omnis don't compress the spring to lower the car

I think what he meant was that with the Omni's you have extra adjustibility due to the fact that you can raise/lower the lower strut mount...and you dont lose any shock travel...

Whereas with most traditional coilover setups, (including sleeves) you adjust the spring perch and thereby lose some (read alot) shock travel and you get a vastly different ride...

Nex coilovers were the same way...

that's exactly what i was trying to say....little late on my reply, but im about to reformat my computer...azian, i am in no way attempting to attack you, please don't turn this around at me. i'm just trying to say that imo omnipowers are an excellent choice for anyone looking into drastically improving their handling. this thread was about adjustabilty for omni coilovers. i own them and was offering some info. omni coilovers don't need adjustable shocks since they come custom valved for the particular spring rate.

Yeah but you were also trying to put a negative spin on teins. Have you ever owned them or been in a car with them?? I have basics with an upgraded spring rate of 8k in the front and 7k in the rear. This is more than enough for our accord. The ride is comfortable on the street and you can carve up curves like a race car. Dont have to go slow over bumps or nuttin

teins have a much better ride on the street. as far as upgraded spring rates, thats sweet! i don't wanna get into a these are better than those arguement. just talking about what i have and my experience.

Getting back to the issue of adjustability: I've read somewhere recently that its important to have adjustable struts to control the dampening (by this, I am using "dampening" to refer to the strut pressing down to the road) so MORE dampening means the spring will be stopped, on its way up, sooner. -> However also translates into a harsher ride?

What are you saing iamanonymous about the matched spring rates?

When finances permit (haha) I will probably get the street sping rates. I'm not autox'ing ever day; so I don't need something super stiff.

I really appreciate everyones imput on this! Thank you all very much.

a shock will only transmit a harder ride if it is valved aggresively (also spring rates of course)...rebound and compression will both have to do with ride quality..most adjustable shocks will only let you adjust rebound...when you are making adjustments you are changing the valving characteristics of the shock...however keep in mind that an adjustable shock at full stiff doesn't always mean an aggresively valved shock (kyb agx for example)

imo, buy what your budget allows you to buy...if i had money i'd go with adjustability (as mentioned above) but for now i'm fine...having an adjustable shock won't make you any faster if your driving is not developed...adjustable shocks simply allow you to change the characteristics of the car to what suits the driver best...and that's all they do...given the same car with the same setup, one might like the front shock turned full soft and the rear full stiff and the other might like it the opposite...all driver's preference...if you don't like how the car handles with non-adjustables you're s.o.l and will have to change other parts of the car instead of just turning a knob

be careful when you say "matched spring rates"...as long as a shock can properly dampen a spring (not over damped or underdamped) it is valved to match rates...these rates are not one particular spring rate but a wide variety...remember: a set of shocks can dampen a wide range of spring rates and not just one particular rate....this is also the reason omni offers different spring rates: because shocks can handle different spring rates as long as they are dampened correctly (they aren't underdamped and allowing the spring to oscillate or "bounce continuously")...the sport and street shocks are not valved any differently from each other but simply come with different rates...can the omnipower shocks handle 12kg spring rates yes...10kg yes 8kg yes 6 kg yes...shocks are NEVER valved for one particular spring rate...you can slap on whatever rates you want as long as the spring rates aren't high enough to leave the shock underdamped

to further touch on this point, also keep in mind adjustable shocks weren't designed so you can run different spring rates and have the shock dampen them by adjusting the valving (you run spring rates that you like)...by having adjustable shocks, you tune the car's behavior (not to make it have more aggressive valving for higher spring rates)...and every driver likes the car to behave differently...omni doesn't know how you like your car to behave so he therefor cannot perfectly valve his shocks to fit your style of driving and have "valving to match spring rates"...there is no valving that will perfectly match a spring rate because everyone likes their shock to control the spring differently (by changing the valving on an adjustable shock)...it's a marketing gig and every company that produces coilovers uses it
