    Cross member

(pictures of the Cross Member down further in the post)
Ok guys I'm making a "cross member" For the trunk that will not connect to the top of the rear strut tower, will this still stiffen the chassis? or does it have to connect to the top of the strut tower to make a difference? Just a quick little drawing to give an example

Strut bars tie the suspension together, this will only stiffen the chassis. That's not a bad thing. I say definately go for it, the reason people use the strut towers bars(besides what I said earlier), is that it's an easy place to mount and install. I think that's the only problem you're going to run into.

The best place to put a bar like you're planning is the widest point of the trunk, where the most flexibility is. Unfortunately, there's nothing to mount or weld to there, besides the body, which isn't strong enough.

My .02, I hope someone with a little more experience will chime in. See if you can talk to a local dirt track or demolition racer, those guys know their stuff.

Thanks that helps... I think that I just need a little bit of a kick to get moving on it. I already have all the stuff so I guess I will start to make it tonight

I'm still trying to decide what color to paint it... It will probably be that color of the car cause I still have to paint it this summer (the car)

Is it welded? or are you going to end up welding it? Because just bolting it together(center bottom) will give enough play that its not working as much as it could. Dont get me wrong.. if there is a weak spot there, this will help, but if you want the maximum stiffening capabilities, your gonna have to weld the middle joint, and the ... connectors for where it mounts.

Yeap it is going to be welded just putting it together to make sure everything fits and looks good then I will make another one and it will be welded to the car
                        Thanks for the comments/advise

That will look sick man, don't know how much it will actually help but I'm sure it will add some stiffening. Deffinately get some pics once that's completed.
