    question: new struts in rear

    hey all
i just finished installing some KYB GR-2's in the rear. I'm lowered on Matrix coilovers. The new struts seem to have raised my car quite a bit, considering i was on blown struts for a couple monthes. I was just wondering if this is normal and if it will settle and lower back some after some time, or should i go ahead and adjust the springs?

it is probably due to the blown struts then switching to gr-2's.....just adjust the coilover to compensate.

Leave them how they are and wait a month and see what happens then. If it doesnt go lower adjust the coilovers accordingly

My car raised up about an inch when I changed OEM to OEM struts; but it's going back down again...

Aren't gr-2's supposed to be more of an OEM replacement, and not really for lowering?

gr-2's are warrantied up to 1 1/2 inch. but even so, with the coilovers im on, the fronts are still oem and are doing just great. almost been a year now. the rears blew because i forgot about a speedbump one morning into work and hit the bumpstops in the rear. also, i didnt have the same coilovers all around, i had some cheaper ones in the rear. all that combined made my struts worthless. If the OEM's can handle the drop i'm certain that the gr-2's are just fine. I would have gotten AGX's, but im not worried about tuning my suspension. i drive one way, thats called Daily. i dont race or autox or anything.
i remember in my old SE i had GC;s over monroe cheap-o struts for 3 years. never had a problem. most struts will do pretty good as long as you have a decent spring rate.

finaly a smart person....yey...lol....stock struts and gr-2 are fine for lowering to an extent. they blow more often when there is more suspension travel (aka a mild drop). but they are good and i have had no issues with my stock struts or gr-2's for well.....more miles than u can imagine. i have to warn u....on a mild drop the struts will blow sooner than later.

but yes the strut will "settle" but not that much. if it raised the car an inch i would lower coilovers .5in

yeah, i just posted in another thread, but i dont think im gonna bother with the whole "which strut is best blah blah argument". it seems like every other thread in this Suspension forum leads to the infamous AGX/Yellow/Blues/GR-2's arguments. oh well, i know what works for me, i just wanted to see if anyone had GR-2's and if so how long did it take them to settle. i figured about a month (thanks Maple!) so we'll wait and see. oh, the struts ride great by the way guys. haha, and i spent what, $100 on two struts and about 150 on the coilovers. $250 and i got a smooth ride, little harsher than OEM (obviously), but some of these guys are spending this much and more on struts alone, just to get 4-16 way adjustables of which they may adjust maybe once or twice the whole time they own their car! oh well, i've messed with alot of suspensions (i've owned 13 cars, and 8 were lowered lol) so i think i did pretty good. once again the cb7's stock struts surprised me when i checked them a few weeks ago.

give the struts about 500miles on smooth roads and about 300miles for rough roads and they should be settled pretty good.
