    upper ball joint

okay the boot on my upper control arm is ripped i squeeze it nothing came out but water assuming rain go in and washed all the grease out.. now my car is makin this nasty sound thats really irritating and i'm scared the joint will seperate and cause more damage....

i;m assuming its one peice and balljoint isn't sold seperately..

anybody has a DIY on this or anything at all.. don't have a manual and need to do this asap.. can this be done with hand tools.. i tried and it looks like its on there tight and for some time.. i don't want to spend more money by buying air compressor with air tools. let me know thanks..

i believe you have the replce the whole upper control arm.
only the 5th gens have removable upper ball joints.

and yes, can be done with hand tools.

two 14mm bolts/nuts for the stock uppercontrol arm anchor thingies.
17mm nuts to hold the anchor device.
two 10mm bolts covering the upper balljoint crown nut
17mm crown nut that holds the upper balljoint as well as a cotter pin.

bang the shit out of the arm to have it release the balljoint and there you go.
(kinda sad that i memorized the entire suspension layout)

0.5mm Oversized Stainless valves and bronze guides available. Pm me please.

          Vice Grips are your friend.

FYI, you can do just the balljoint, but it's easier to replace the whole arm. And really, there isn't much of a price difference btwn the whole arm and just the balljoint.

Use a hacksaw and cut the nut off and hit the top of the knuckle where the control arm bolts onto with a hammer and it will come right off.

don't have a hacksaw and or vice grips.. well not the right one... don't have torch neither.. the nut is completely rounded off from using wrenches thats why i hate fuckin hand tools.. especially on suspension parts.. well anyways the socket fits tight on the nut can i use a air ratech or it will just spin.. socket fits snug though... thanks

You can try an impact. Or, just put a rachet on there, that way if it starts to round off more, you can feel it before it gets worse.

if its completely round just stick a socket about a size smaller or 2 sizes smaller and hit it with the hammer on there and then turn it out with the ratchet.

actually air tools will more likely strip things because of the sudden impact.

just make sure the sizes are corect and are flush against the nut and not on angles.

but yea, use a mm smaller socket if you can get her on there.

Get an air ratchet to use in tight spaces, and get a heavy impact gun, get the most lbs impact that you can afford in the gun.

Get a large enough compressor, 30 gallon tank I recommend. And you can use regular sockets with impact guns but the chrome on them tend to break off after a couple uses. Thats why you buy the craftsman sockets or ones with lifetime warranty so when they break you return them.

u can just replace the upper ball joint.........i did this a few weeks ago...... i spent ~$26 per upper ball joint. and it is wicked easy to install, took me 30min for both sides (1hr total).

check rockauto.com. i forgot the brand but they work well and the ride is much better.
