Question to the ones that roll with 17" wheels

I just bought some 17s but the tires are pretty much gone. The tires on the rims are 205-40.I have done some reading in this forum and theres more people using 215-40.is there a huge difference from these 2 tires sizes?I dont have my car lowered as of right now but im planning to do it in the near future.Would i get a better ride with 215 oppose to the 205.Would the tire rub if i go with 215 and a 1 inch drop. Thanks guys.

    No. I have a 1.8" drop and I'm running 225 45 17 with no rubbing.

Best thing to do is look at the actual tire specs. 205/40 17's and 215/40 17's are very similar however, the 215's are generally a hair taller and wider than the 205's. And tires that may be the same size, but different brands will often be slightly different in there overall physical dimensions. Just about all 205/40/17's are just under 24" in overall diameter- making them shorter than your average 195/60/15 (stock size), while the 215 40's can be a closer match. Again, the tire manufacturers specs can give you a better idea. hope this helps
