f22 vtec swap into 90 ex

ok my friend totaled his 95 today and his motors fine. would it be worth it to swap his motor into my 90 4 door ex?he said he'll sell me the motor. his motor is the vtec f22 and its 5spd with 127,xxx and my motor is non vtec automatic with 235,xxx. is it worth it? his trans has a stage 2 clutch, thats the only mod to his car. also how hard is it to do the swap. i will have everything i need for the swap, ecu, linkage, pedals, engine, trans, everything i should need. one more thing is there any parts on the 95 that wont work in my car like the shift linkage or anything?

    very cool deal!

    I'd go for it!
should be a direct swap. I think all you'll need to do is run a couple more wires to get Vtec workin'.

*edit* The hardest part will be getting the manual swap. but it's not too bad. I think we have a few DIYs here on how to do a manual conversion.

his car was pretty fast. the motor has also been rebuilt twice so its got alot of new parts internally. He said 500 for everything i need. would that motor be good to turbo? i've talked to a guy on superhonda with a 95 4 door non vtec that has a turbo setup and he's close to 300

Dude hes 300? That guy is old! Just kidding. You should be able to turbo you just wont be able to run as much boost as an f22a due the the f22b's higher compression.

$500 for an F22B1 in good shape isn't terrible. It's certainly not a performance engine, but it will give you 150hp and a manual transmission over your slushbox and 125-140hp (depending on what model you have).

You CAN turbo it, but I've heard that those engines are pretty weak. Do your homework, and you should be able to pull 300hp easily enough. Especially if you get better internals. Still, don't expect more than 300... you'll probably end up with less.

The transmission swap will be a total pain in the ass. Considering that just about everything you'll need can be found on his car though, you'll be in better shape. Make sure that price is for EVERYTHING. Hopefully we'll get some replies from the more mechanically inclined (BustedLX comes to mind...) about what is and what isn't compatible regarding the manual transmission setup from the 5th gen. Most of it should be usable, if not all of it (You will probably need the dash/floor piece that the shifter goes in and the gauge cluster from a manual CB7)

I'm not sure. I usually hear that manual swaps need the cluster... Maybe things don't work the same? I dunno, maybe it's not necessart. Perhaps they just don't want the gear indicator there anymore! (though sometimes I wish I had a gear indicator... I've reached to shift up from 5th before... stupid H22 tranny and its short gears! )

a new cluster would be better imo, or else youll be looking at that ugly gear indicator on the fuel/temp guage.
