    h22a head help

so i picked up an h22a head off of a buddy today... what are my options of putting it on my jdm f22b dohc non vtec motor? i know i need an ecu aslo i would have to plug 2 of the 8 holes on the bottom of the head if im not mistaking? can i use my stock f22b intake manifold?

Theres a whole topic covered on here somewhere I think. Best bet is to search Honda-Tech extensively.

      You'll have a nice low-compression, low-redline mockery of an H22... it's a stupid idea.

Find youself an H22 block to go along with it.

And this has been covered DOZENS of times, and done by a few members. Most of them blow up.

The F22B block is the same as the F22A block. Anything dealing with the H22A head on the F22A block will apply to you.

My advice: don't waste your time.

IIRC, there's a few problems with it.

            1. The vtec solenoid isn't compatible with our block (unless maybe someone has actually done it, it might need new oil ports and stuff in the block to make it work)
            2. The vtec head doesn't flow as nicely as the F22 head does, so there's no real gain from it.
            3. As was already said, you're gonna get some bad compression ratio if you mix these parts. You'll lose quite a bit of power from that.
            4. By the time that you buy a custom head gasket, pay to get some oil holes drilled or filled, etc. you're gonna end up with just about as much money into this as you would just dropping in the h22 block entirely.

However, I am kinda curious, could someone perhaps put an H22 head onto an F22 block to get super low compression, then be able to turbo put a massive turbo on it without the need for sleeving? That doesn't sound like too bad of an idea if the vtec solenoid can be made to work on an F22 block.

That's why most people do it... because they wrongly believe the F22's sleeves are "better for boost"

However, the F22A head is just as good for boost, and the F22A's internals are weak no matter what (as are the H22A's.... ringlands will fail in either) Adding the H22A head to an F22A block for boost purposes is only adding another source of potential reliability issues.

A stock-block H22A can be boosted with a careful tune. H22As have high compression, but not too high to safely run low boost with a proper setup and good tune. mozzandherb did it for quite some time.

so would it be best to find an h22 block an work from there?

Ya. The sleeves aren't really the weakpoint on either. It's pretty much just a "I want my setup to be unique" thing.

If you want to use the H22 head, yes.

True. But boosting a Geo Metro is unique as well... doesn't mean it's a great idea! (actually, that car is light as hell... so maybe it's not a bad idea... but you see the point!)

Or like putting over 20 horsepower in a prius would be unique. And I think I've seen a boosted metro somewhere around here, it's ridiculous what little cars do when boosted.
