    Euro Engine Options

    My F22a1 recently died, and I have a $200, local, replacement...option.

    An F22B6. 140 hp.
    From an 95-98 Odessey.

Now there is a F22B5 that is an ES CD7. 150hp.
But there is very little info on the web in English about it...

It seems like I could order and swap the cam, and get a tune-an IM and header and have a Euro...

I started looking up part numbers, starting with the cylindar head gasket... (F22A5) but this is a big task.

    I'm hoping for some help.

Not much is really out there about some of these Euro spec engines.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I'm just replying by cellphone however, If memory serves me right, the F22B 150hp version sounds much like the JDM DOHC F22B (basically a 2.2 H23 look-alike and uses the same P13 stamped intake manifold like a H22. However there is a SOHC F22B as well! Unlike the USA, Euro countries and a select few others got JDM motors with little to no differences at all except for the number after the alpha stamp on the block.

The odyssey motor you speak of sounds like it could be identical to a
F22a6. If you don't want to risk headaches of getting the F22B working right I'd say go for the Odyssey motor and maybe keep your existing transmission (maybe more aggressive than van gearing) if your getting a full transplant. That way you wouldnt' have to go hunting for a ecu.

Actually, its closest relative we are familiar with is the F22B1.
      This is a SOHC non-vtec.
I have done some research, but part interchangeability is the goal of what I'm looking for.

Specifically the difference between the F22B6 and the F22B5.
So far it looks like a cam and a tune...
but I would like to know what I'm buying and its potential.

        f22b1 = vtec

        f22b2= no vtec

        is it obd1 or obd2?

That would be an important issue if I was the one considering the swap.

From what I saw, there is a difference in Cylinder Gaskets between the F22B6 and the F22B5; and the F22B6 gasket was interchangeable with the B1 the B2 and a B8, but the B5 had a different part #- leading me to believe that there is a block difference.

Nither the B6 or B5 is v-tec, both are sohc and obd2.
I have a tuner friend, so I have a custom ecu for whatever I get.

I am having the damnedest time finding a clear answer to "what's the difference?" And I was hoping I could get some fellow members to dig with me.

A post on Bisi's forum says that the F22B5 has a 9.4:1 compression ratio. So possibly the engine uses PT2 pistons from the F22B DOHC.

EDIT* The F22B2 is 130hp and is what we could use as a base of reference. If the differences were only the a cam, a bump in compression and a tune to extract power from both of those I could see that making an additional 20hp easily. There's also a good chance the exhaust manifolds are different but I haven't done that research yet.

EDIT AGAIN* The exhaust manifolds are different it seems.

This is the F22B2/6 manifold here in the states. It's obviously cast.

Now here's the F22B5 manifold. It's similar to the upgrade the F22A4 got over the F22A1.

I decided to buy the F22B6, and upon some digging in Odessey Forums found this thread.

I do believe I see a cam upgrade sometime in my future! LOL

I'm assuming you've seen this thread:

                    http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=185283

The thread you posted had some good info in it. If you're going to try to replicate the numbers from an F22B5 I'd say your work is cut out. The header is the easy part because that can be done with a cheap one off eBay. The F23 manifold is one that even the F22B5 doesn't have so that would be another advantage. The cam is where it gets a little less valuable in terms of your return on cost and effort. The cam in the F22B6 is already a mild upgrade over the F22B2. It probably has specs that Honda felt were maxed out (in terms of an engine that would be driven by soccer mom's yet still lugging around the bulk of a minivan) given its anemic compression. The bump in compression from 8.8:1 to 9.3-9.4:1(conflicting information) gave more leeway to play with cam specs and see more benefits. So, a cam upgrade would be decent and would likely yield similar results to what F22A guys get but I think it would be better served by a bump in compression. I said it's less valuable here because high compression piston options for us aren't incredibly cheap.

Yep, read that thread in prep for install.

One of the reasons I considered this engine (besides price) is the amount of bolt on's coming with it. Header and AEM fuel rail- I think the only thing I need is an IM.
And there is something else on it I am forgetting....

I would probably either order a B8 (B5) cam- or find an aftermarket- down the line. I'm not really doing this swap for power. My purpose in making this thread was basically to put all this info in one place because the headache of reading a F* ton of rambling threads to glean a few nuggets of info, is exhausting.

I was honestly surprised that this, and the B5 swap are not more commonly done in our cars. (The B5 is basically a 95-97 accord SE+ trim level, for those who are reading this)That compression ratio is tits for boost.

Thanks again for helping me troll for info Jarrett!

If you (or anyone else) come across more info on this Head/Block/Engine and their compatibilities- please add it to this thread.
                      Thanks!!!

                        outside of the US right?

As far as I know, US options were v6 (c27 I think), f22b1(vtec) and f22b2(no vtec) in the cd5 chassis. Im an original owner of a 96 f22b1 cd5. The SE's Ive seen had the b2 engine, no vtec and 4sp auto only.

I'm gonna be honest, I have no f*ing clue.
My head is so crammed with "foreign" engine facts, I have no idea what specific trims are Euro/USDM for that Gen.

I have basically been dissecting the F22Bx engines in attempt to understand what I am spending my money on. I was not thrilled to be leaving the F22ax platform, because Ive spent 3 years here now, learning almost exclusively about that. I am pretty F*ing thrifty, so even $200 on an engine "hurts" me. Therefore I didn't want to spend good money on something that could run another 100+k, and I, hating every second of it.

But I don't think that would happen.
I am just hoping that I can find something to "do" with it. I like modifying, and if I couldn't do that with this- It wouldn't "satisfy".
