    JDM H23A Non-Vtec Swap

I have done some searching and i cant find a direct answer to a couple things.

This is the engine Im looking at. http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/sc...age&item=30030

From what i do know it should be just like puting the stock F22 back in but i havent found a direct answer.

Can i find the proper JDM ecu that was designed to run this engine and plug it in just like the Pt6 i have now? Or can I use a USDM p14 ecu? Is the USDM and JDM H23 close enough to do that?

I know if i want to use the IABs that i will have to wire that to the ecu. Also ill have to use my F22 fuel rail because the banjo bolt is on the wrong side on this H23.

If i have missed something please let me know or post a link, thank you.

That engine in Japan only came in the 1992-1996 Honda Ascot Innova which there weren't a whole lot of. So, if it were me, I'd call and ask to make sure that really is a JDM engine and not just a recycled USDM H23A1.

But either way, yes, you can run them off of a P14 ECU without a problem. You'll need to wire in a knock sensor, the IABs and, depending on where your O2 sensor is currently located, extend the wiring so that it will plug into the downpipe.

Yes, you should properly hook up the IABs. You'll hurt power down low by not using them at all and you'll open them too soon if you run them straight off of vacuum. It's not difficult to add a pin to a harness and route it to the engine bay. The connector can be had for free from a junkyard.

Edit** I just saw your member's ride thread in the list of new posts and it says you have a '92 EX. The '92-'93 EX and SE Accords (as well as the '91 SE and '91 EX wagon)had the F22A6 which had IABs from the factory. You don't need to rewind the IABs at all as it will be a plug and play operation for you. The knock sensor will still be needed. Also, your O2 sensor is already in the right place.

no bullshit frm and the head is pretty similar. plus that engine fits the stock wiring harness. no need to wire a knock and it runs damn good on a pt6.

The reputation that FRM has is undeserved and is really only a stumbling block for people who want to upgrade pistons. That's 10% of this forum, maybe. Even then, there are a few factory options before you're forced to look into sleeving the engine.

Either way, you are right in that they're similar in design and power output. They are hardly the same, though. But as far as wiring goes, the knock sensor is the only additional thing you'd have to wire into a car that already has IABs. The benefit is that you get to use the P14 ECU whereas you are using an ECU tuned for 8.8:1 compression and milder cams in your scenario. Sure it runs well, but it needs a better tune to make more power unless you fork over the change for a P39.

i had a dyno day a couple weeks ago. my car with f22b dohc and a pt6 made 142 whp and 143 wtq. more than a chipped ecu with a p39 map.

Alright! Thank you very much! My engine is just shot, It smokes so much and has just had it. Someone really beat on it before I had it and never changed the oil.

Its good news to hear this swap is so easy!

I read on another forum that someone else bought a JDM H23A from Hmotors and it was infact from the Ascot Innova. H23A and no 1.

I dont know what the numbers are on that engine but Im after torque and a newer engine that isnt blown up like mine. The H23 has the torque that Im after.

                Thanks to you both!

Yeah, whats the point in having 180hp at the wheels when your just going to spin 1 tire through 1st. lol I want to be able to put the power down off the line.
