Is the f22 tranny a waste?

Hey guys. Pretty soon I'm gonna pick up a H22 out of Memphis, Tn. It's $300, and includes everything, except an oil pan and oil pump. TB, Intake mani, head, block, ecu, wiring harness, alternator, dist, water pump, etc. NO transmission though. I know about all the things I'll need to get, because I'm planning on doing an auto to 5 speed swap. The big question is, is it a waste to put an f series tranny on an h22? what about an h23 tranny? Would I lose significant power? Pull a part has f22 transmissions where I am picking up the engine, so I was planning to get that, and hopefully all the clutch assembly parts i need. Should I do it, or get the engine and wait for a transmission, or wait for an engine and transmission?...

The f22 tranny has longer gears and I also believe ( not 100% sure) an f22 tranny matched with an h22 you fall out of vtec when shifting.

That is correct. You fall out of VTEC in 3rd gear.

However the trade off is that the F22's longer gears are wonderful for gas mileage. Also if you eventually decide to turbocharge the motor the longer gearing give the turbo more time to spool in between gear changes.

IMHO an F trans with a slightly shorter 3rd gear and LSD would be the ultimate all around transmission. But that's just me.

Is there any way to equip it with lsd? I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it. I have no idea on how to work on transmissions, though..

Go H for performance, F for gas mileage. The H will out accelerate a F everytime.

Don't bump a thread an hour after your last post. That's rude.
