I changed out the engine coolant temp sensor yesterday, and that fixed the ECT code I was throwing. I got me some new codes though. I am now throwing 12(knock sensor), and code 23(EGR). I used the infamous search function, but couldn't really come up w/ anything helpful. Every time I crank the car it will idle for a few seconds, but really rough, and then die. I drove it to work, and it is driveable, but it's a little sluggish and runs crappy in the low rpms, hot or cold I believe. It's only been going on for a half a day, so I don't have all the details as to how it's running, but I think that should be enough for you guys to get an idea. I am picking up my cap and rotor after work, along with some new plugs in case I fouled out the others running too rich from not having the map and tps working properly. Do you think replacing these ignition/electrical parts will help? BTW, I have a 1990 accord ex cap and rotor by Wells, NGK blues, and ngk v-power plugs(not 100% on buying these yet.) Any ideas? I won't be replacing the parts until late tonight or tomorrow morning, but I may get a chance to as soon as I get home. I'll update on what happens, but I still could use some help with diagnosing the problem and fixing it. I have a helms, but haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

why its throughing KS i dont know and cant seem to understand.. because if the KS is bad it should of came on as well with the other codes.. unless the ecu has a limit? to how many codes it can throw? but i dont think this holds true.. regardless.. like i said.. the egr u can replace with ur accord one off the f22b1.. i think u added the h22a plug to ur egr harness so u may have to rewire the accord plug back on it.. as for KS.. i say u get a p28 already and disable that shit.. dont fucking worry about it..
but yeah i heard the car over the phone and she doesnt sound to healthy at idle but once going it sounds ok.. and vtec kicks in pretty good.. so its just a wierd problem at idle.. i dont see what the fuck the ECT would have to do with idle.. this is my THEORY..
IF the ECT is unplugged then the ecu thinks its cold im assuming? therefore it is runnin off of cold settings? correct? alot more fuel at idle i believe to keep the rpms up.. so.. when its plugged in and sees its warm its running the warm'd up settings no? his plugs may play a rule in this considering he may have fouled them up pretty good running without the emissions box connected.. hopefully this will solve some of the problem..
hopefully everyone can understand this.. i wrote it as simple as i could as not to confuse anybody..

i know running with the ECT sensor code being thrown, the engine is basically running in limp mode. the vtec won't engage, and it runs horribly. i had the same problem with mine when the swap was done.
do you have the prelude online manual that shows the code and how to fix them? i'd go by that, very simple to follow. if you don't have it, download it from my server.

i'm like you...no VTEC
Car is still throwing 12 (EGR) CEL
Even though i'm using the GOOD/WORKING old F22a4 EGR valve...I don't have a clue.
Good luck and keep us posted
Btw...will EGR not working cause VTEC to not engage or limp mode or both? Thanks2DAO (2 Door Accord Owner)

I had the same problems when i got my swap done but it waited like a month before it started doin it. now your coolant temp. sensor can go off if you are low on coolant. check for intake leaks cuz mine threw codes for CTS, MAP, and IAC valve and we tested those and they were all good. so just letting you know that just cuz it throws a code, it could be a false code.
As far as the EGR goes, we bypassed mine. it threw a code til i got my P28 ecu.
also you might check the fast idle valve they tend to wear out.
good luck and take it one step at a time and single things out one by one.
bout a month ago i threw the CTS code and changed it out and had a surging idle for like 3 weeks til i sprayed the intake mani. with carb. cleaner and found out my intake man. gasket was leaking.Used To Be The One & Only H22 Powered CB7 In Oklahoma! ! !

lol. I spoke too soon...when the KS CEL comes on VTEC wont engage (duh...i know...) However, this is the weird part.
I follow HELMS for testing KS. Put car in nutral, REV to 3-4k for 10s. NO CEL
So I rev to 5-6k for 10s, again, no cel. I tried 3-4k for 20s....no CEL.
So I start driving: 1st gear all the way to 6.5k (damn rev limiter...), no CEL, shift into second and again to 6.5k...no CEL, third to 6.5k...NO cel then as i take my foot off gas (red light upcomming ahead) CEL comes on. Code: 23 (KS).
wtf?
I'm lost...lol.2DAO (2 Door Accord Owner)

really? I was told that was no the case. I could have sworn i remember someone here telling me that KS was required for VTEC...perhaps I'm wrong...would someone else mind verifying.
Thanks for the input sho_nuff, that really makes me feel better
Now to get this car outta limp mode.

Ya, I'm working on checking the wiring right now, don't wanna spend $$ if i dont have to. Do you have a helms for 93 vtec prelude? If not, I can provide you with a PDF. Awesome resource if you dont have it.2DAO (2 Door Accord Owner)
