    Auto to 5-speed Hickup!

I am almost done with my auto to 5-speed swap, I came across 2 things I don't recall when pulling the transmission. It's a 5 speed from a 91 Accord and between the starter and the clutch line there is a threaded hole (which I can easily plug) but I wanted to know the purpose of it. In addition there is what appears to be a hose pipe sticking straight up right around the same area. I really don't remember what went there and I am basically ready to start the car but I want to address these two things prior.

I had just done this swap myself this last march.. I think the threaded hole that your speaking of is the reverse sensor hole(not 100% sure what hole your talking about without a picture though.. there's a lot going on in that area) the metal tube that sticks straight up? Mine had a rubber cap on it. Its a levaler of some sort. Let me know if this helps you or you need more info... like I said, pictures would be helpful for me to help you better.

The metal tube is a breather for the trans, a rubber tube hooks to it and points down and is fixed in place. the threaded hole i can not say w/o pics. gl

There is a breather tube and a threaded hole on the top of the trans. The threaded hole used to have a bracket mounted there that kept the wiring harness in place. I have not found it as necessary however if you wanted to pull one off at a salvage yard it would be just that much more added security.

The breather tube is supposed to have a black cap on it like the one you see below. If you do not have a breather cap on your breather tube then you may want to find one at a salvage yard or at your Honda dealer. It's not urgent but it keeps moisture and debris from potentially falling inside.

You can ignore the hole, it is nothing more than an anchor point for a wire clamp. The wiring harness directly above it, where the white electrical tape is wrapped, is where the clamp used to be.

also that tube is a breather tube, it comes with a very specific type of "breather" cap that does not create a total seal. Make sure you use the original cap or leave it open (dont just seal it off with a regular sealed cap)

***EDIT*** I should have read the post above mine ^ lol Hellraisin beat me.

I don't see any need for it myself. If cp[mike] says to leave it off, then that's what I would do.

Thanks everyone!!! I actually found the manual trans wiring harness and the reverse switch was attached to it, still need to purchase another one due to this one being rusty. I will purchase a breather cap since I have no idea where I placed it..... What's funny is that went to start it without either attached and after five minutes of trying to bleed my clutch line I discovered that the $25 stainless steel clutch hose I got from ebay is leaking in the middle.... so much for a bargain; I will be purchasing one of those as well!

To get your reverse lights working you attach the yellow wire in the grey harness that went to your automatic shifter to the yellow wire on the reverse switch. Same with the green/black wire. You will need to run your own wire to them through the firewall some place.

I wrote a DIY, unfortunately that is one of the only parts which I have not completed. I will have that done tomorrow in fact. It will better explain things.

That cap was missing when I did the engine swap on my gf's old CB, I slapped on a Autozone breather filter I had lying around.
