    H22 or H23

    i got a 90 accord dx 5speed.
i have been reading around on these forums. about the h22 swap and i can't make heads or tails of most of the stuff. i am still looking for a h22 or h23 but wich one should i go with? wich one would be easyist to swap in. and what do you mean by the diffrennt ecus and stuff.
so if i put a 95-96 h22 with a 5speed tranny and got the ecu with it. what would i have to buy and how would i do it. in my own garage? i am good with mechanics and wiring becuase i had to rewire my old sunbird. but any info would be greatly appreciated.

    used condoms? wtf

Well, I can't say which is easier, but the difference between the H22 and H23 is the H22 is VTEC and the H23 is not.

    H23 - 160hp
    H22 - 190hp

        Word.

"i can't make heads or tails of most of the stuff."

"i am good with mechanics and wiring becuase i had to rewire my old sunbird."

What dont you understand? If your Accord is already a 5 speed manual, then dropping either motor in is pretty straight-forward. Once either motor is in the car, it then becomes a matter of wiring. If youre good at wiring like you say, then its a piece of cake, especially since you can count all the wires that need to be added on one hand.

Since both motors are easy to swap in, which you should choose becomes a matter of what you want out of the motor. Do you want an all-motor application? Do you want VTEC? If you do, the H22 is the motor you want. Do you want to turbo charge the motor? If you do, then the H23 is considered the better motor to do so. Take your pick.

            -----------------------------------------------------
and here are some random post exerps about the different engines(from HondaSociety.com)

...h23 straight bolt on .. cheaper , and u can boost on it more because it's compression is lower then the h22a.. u can use ur accord ecu and accord headers and exhust.. very reliable cuz u dont have to add any wire's or n'e thing

...came off of a 92-96 Prelude SI

...its kinda hard to find one for low mileage

            ...160hp@6800/158lb-ft@5500

...with any engine you can safely spray 50-60 shot

...half price of an h22 roughly

            ...h23accordlude ran a 13.6 on the 1/4 while spraying

...very easy to swap, need power steering pump only

            ------------------------------------------------------
Now for a brief over view:

so, basically, h23 is cheaper than h22 and has 160hp and 160 lb-ft torque(compared to the 125hp and 137lb-ft f22a1), also DOHC but no VTEC. most of the H22 engines are OBD2, but H23 is OBD1. so the H23 will be easier to wire.

someone is selling an H23 in hte for sale forum right now for $200 + shipping or local pickup. it doesn't have a tranny with it, but the F22 tranny and intake/exhaust will bolt right up. I think you can even use the F22 ECU.

whereas a H22 will cost you at least $1500, need to rewire for OBD2, different ECU

i'm going to do the H23 eventually because everyone and there mother has an H22, and i want to be different. BUT, if you want the most power stock(H23 is better for boostin ) then a H22 is your best bet.

and remember "speed is money. How fast can you go?"(its from someones sig)

i also know there is the h23a that is a JDM motor with vtec. but anyways h22 vs. h23 is more a question of budget. the h23 is usually found for a cheaper price than an h22 and can be made an h23 vtec motor relatively easily so there is no "vtec, non vtec argument" here (unless you want to boost then youll end up hating the high lift long duration lobe cause youll never get good tuning for boost)

                  H22 is OBD2? 92-96 200 161 10.6:1 87 90 DOHC VTEC 2157 JDM=obd1?

apparently the older h22 (untill '96)are obd1, newer ones are obd2. thats why alot of people complain about wiring, they want newer(less miles) engines for their swap, and end up with obd2 engine and obd1 everything else.

                    1994-1996 H22A1 OBD1 - USA (SR-V)
                    1992-1996 H22 OBD1 - Japan

h23 are older so they are obd1.

clarkster's list didn't include obd code, so i don't for sure about the ones on his list.
