    New Member swap questions???

Hey Everyone!! I'm a new member here and I just bought a '90 Accord LX and I'm going to swap the JDM H22 in to it for sure in the next couple weeks. Now I am a little unfamiliar with engine swaps and intend on doing it with a qualified mechanic. My questions are simple: What kind of issues can I expect during the swap that might make my job easier if I know it ahead of time. I already know that the F22 tranny bolts up to the H22 which hopefully I won't have to do, but if money get tight i will do it just won't be as good as the H22, right? And since I'm getting a JDM motor more then likely, will I have to get a new harness for a usdm engine. Anyway that's all I can think of right now, I probably sound a bit clueless but I need to know what I'm getting into. Oh and thanks to fizzbob7 for telling me about this site. Later.........

So i need to look into getting a manual tensioner off the H23? Where would be the place to get that(junkyard, Honda parts dealer)? The P28 is the sohc civic ecu if I remember right, and it's fine unchipped for the most part until you get around to it? As far as the tranmission goes the difference between the f series and H series transmission is not a big deal I take it, I just read something about the F22 tranny have too long of gears. Is there anywhere I can find a wiring diagram to help me out a little, if not when I'm doing the swap I can always post on here or SHO and get an answer pretty quick I'm live in Portland,OR by the way, and now all I have to do is find a good place to find an engine locally to save a little money. Will I actually save some money since I don't need the axles or anything, because I would like to find something in the $1700 so I had a little money for some other goodies. I really appreciate you help..Thanks

Hey Fizzbob7 I really appreciate you taking the time to teach some things, I think I'm starting to understand a little more. Is it pretty easy to find a chipped P28 cause I think that's what I'm going to go with and let whoever sells me the motor to keep the P13 ecu so I can save a little money for the other one. I'm still trying to find a dealer locally, I'm sure alot of places get a lot kids calling about engine prices so I'll have to be persistent so they know I'm serious. But I think for now I'm going with the H22 (obviously), p28 chipped and the f22 transmission for now then I'll upgrade to the H22 later. One other question I have is what year of H22 is recommend and the whole closed deck, open deck thing still has me a little confused, you care to shed some light on that for me........Thanks Again

Ok fizzbob7 BIG!!!! big change in plans, I am now going to build an H22 from the ground up at least try. I have about $2500 so I hope that is enough to do it with. Anyway my Father in law and his dad used to build race engines back in the day and my wife grandpa port and polishes heads in his garage for extra money, and I was completely unaware of this. But as soon as I told them that I wanted to put an H22 in that accord they dicided they want to help me build one. All I have to do is buy the parts and they'll put it together for me with my help of course. Anyway I'm a little excited so I'm going to need to get an idea of what I should try and get as far as pistons, rods and all that sort of shit. Keep in mind I have a $2500 budget.

If you succed in that, I guarantee you that you'll know as much, if not more, than everyone on this board about H22s by the time you're done! Good luck! (all I can do is offer encouragement, since everything I know has been covered already )

If you're building for performance (boost or N/A) then your plan is a good one. However, if you're just planning on getting a running stock H22, why not order one from www.hmotorsonline.com? I got mine for $2400 shipped from CA to NJ, and it runs great (complete swap, ECU and tranny as well). You already have all the help you need installing it, it seems, so that would fit into your budget.
You could then work on building it up for more power a little at a time.

my pops in law apparently knows a guy who owns a wrecking yard and he has two engines sitting there one is out of a 95 lude the other out a 98. He has known this guy for many, many years and he told me that he could get it for around $500-600, now keep in mind I just found this out tonight so weather or not this pans out we'll see but it sounds pretty promsing. I honsetly think he is as excited as I am, my brother in law is kind of a *** and prefers flowers over cars so he enjoys doing this kind of stuff with me. But I don't want to go turbo, just N/A don't want something super ass fast ( have to carry a 6 month old baby). I've just been wanting to do this for a long ass time ever since my SI was stolen now I have the chance so I'm pumped.

Good luck with it then! The 95 will be easier to install, since it's OBD I... OBD II is a bitch, I hear. Of course, I also hear that the 96+ H22s are better in some ways.

Either way, you will certainly learn a lot by rebuilding! If I had your options, I think I would be as excited at the learning opportunity as I would be at getting a more powerful car!

Exactly, I'm looking at this as a total learning expirence! I know I'll probably not have the money to go all out, but I think it will probably end up being better then a stock H22 ( hopefully!!!).
