hmm kinda depends on how deep ur pockets are....if u have enough id go H22a1 or the JDM h22a for a lil more umphf! lol! but the H23/f22B have plenty of a gain more than the stock F22a1 or F22a4/6....soo it all depends on how much u want to spend on it...personally ive gone from wanting to just upgrade my JDM F22a with a cam/cam gear etc etc too almost doing a hybird F22a botto with a JDM F22b (DOHC) head swap...to now going with the full JDM H22a engine swap... i mean who doesnt want 200hp that has VTEC and revs to mid 7000 range?? i certainly do! and im getting my JDM H22a engine/auto tranny(yess sucky-but only temporary)/ecu for 1600 out the door at a warehouse i bought my current JDM F22A from.... soo its kinda up to you man...we cant make the decision for you only guide you! and Hmotorsonline.com is a good place i hear!

if you want to boost - go F22b - you're gonna pay as much as a grand less for it, and Vtec, imho isn't worth an extra grand - especially when you consider the fact that you can do what vtec does in essence, through other means - and i dont mean "there are other ways to open your valves longer," well there are, but im saying the end result of vtec is to allow more fuel/ air ito the cylinders for extra push when you need it... well there are other ways, like through ECU programming, to accomplish that same goal...Originally posted by blackedoutyea true
H22A is a really nice motor cuz of the V-tec.. I'll have to look around..
it's also a direct swap into our cars, plus the F-block is a better platform for turbo, seeing as though youre talking about boosting - AND when it comes to things like headers, intakes, and those sorts of external upgrades, you can still use H22 pieces, which is great since there's a better aftermarket for the H22 when it comes to performance upgrades - yes you start with a little less HP out the box on an F22b, but there are easy ways to regain that ground -
Honestly, the H22 is great for "out the box" comfort, but if you're serious about building, i'd stick with the F-series
And Yes, i am partial, but that's a result of painful amounts of research. Please, as I always say - search is your friend, esp. when it comes to a topic as covered as this one - well the H22, anyway - the F22b is a slightly less traveled territory, done yes, but not so much of the glamour and hype the H22 carries -
good luck , and keep us posted. if there's anything you CAN'T find by searching, we're here to help

thanks for not threadwhoring at my expense
P.S. If you're serious about this, I'd also consider doing the swap yourself if you have access to the tools.
Even if I count all the old shit on my sad car that broke or disintegrated to the touch when i did my swap, I only spent about $1100 - that includes shop time ($4 a day, unlimited tool use) and my engine, which i got for $500 and they added me a water pump, tbelt, balance shaft belt, and all the appropriate retainers/ tensioners for another 100 -
granted i drove into LA with a friend/ fellow member to pick up the engine so i saved on shipping, but still, you get my point - and the knowledge/ experience you gain is priceless

remember, we're military - there's a shop here, and on our sister base down the road, there's an even better one with newer stuff AND paint facilities - the lifts are $2 for the half hour, and the overnite stalls are $4 a day... a definite blessing for us!

As the engines get older, ones worth selling are becoming harder to find.
If you want to go boost, it may be wise to find one that needs to be rebuilt, and rebuild it with stronger internals. I mean, if you're going to replace the pistons in a motor, why pay for a motor that comes with good stock pistons? Get a seized motor for cheap!

well i will eventually be boosting it but probably not for another 6 months or so thats why i want to get it now and start saving.... I would like to drive the car however with a new motor because i think my rings are bad.... Also i looked into a 5-spd swap and its going to run about $750 for everything, labor, parts, and transmission..R.I.P. Landon Hilburn 06-27-08
