    New Swap Idea!

Its me again, The most in-d-sy-sive member of CB7tuner.com

I just spent the past 1 1/2 hour reading up on F22bs (Arnt you guys proud of me?!).

I noticed that Accord R33 has a turbo on his stock motor. He's puttin out some pretty good numbers on the dyno too. His motor also has 200,000 miles on it .

Just in case some of you dont know who I'am, my name is Lam. I've been debating for about 3 weeks now on which route to go with a swap.

    H22 or F22b turbo'd?

    How about this!!!...

Buy new pistons for my motor and a stonger head gasket (???) (ps. I have 114,000 miles on my car) so therefore, I can turbo it?

    Once again, skool me,
    -Lam

Yep thats me (2 days ago I think?)

Man, Deciding what to do is harder than I thought.

You see, 50% of the people on this site has an H22 and they're telling me to do the H22. The other 50% has F22bs and they're telling me to get the F22b...lol

Im getting nowhere with this. Im leaning towards the F22 tho (3g budget)

          Thanks,
          -Lam

dont let other people "tell" u what to do. let them help u, but not force u into getting the motor u want.

what is this going to be? daily driver? track queen? something u want fast for the street but reliable as a daily driver?

I know I know, I just want help from people who already have it. Trust me, It took me a long time so save up that $. There is no damn way in hell that Im gonna let someone else decide what to do with it...lol

Daily driver, and I need it to be very dependable. I go down to the shore alot during the Summer (almost everyday). I live in Philly and the shore is about 1 1/2 hours away and it should be 45mins away with my swap...lol

              Thanks again,

i think the best bet for a fast/reliable/daily driver is the h22

the f22b isnt a bad motor either, not as fast because of no vtec and less hp but still a strong DOHC motor. if i was u and i wanted a daily driver but didnt wanna spend a lot of money i would do the f22b. u can usually find em for under 1000 bucks.

Yea, f22b sounds hella good compared to the (well over $2g) H22 (thats like, my budget right there!).

But how about the whole Idea of new pistons, head gasket, and w/e?

Is that a no on that idea?

depends on what pistons ur gunna get, are u gunna boost?

head gasket is always good to replace i guess, if u do it when its out of the car. even tho the one that will come on the motor is probly fine.

in ur case i wouldnt boost, but thats just my opinion. forced induction isnt as reliable as NA, no way around it despite what anyone tells u.

if u want a fast/reliable/daily driver i would go with an NA f22b with some good bolt ons.

start with an intake, overbored throttle body, header, high flow cat, and catback exhaust. see how u like that, then if ur not satisfied look for things like cams/cam gears, port and polished intake manifold and a chipped ecu tuned for these kind of mods, like midniteracerx does

TeamST, if you only have 3k to work with, DO NOT go turbo. Turbocharging an engine is definitely not a set-and-forget matter. With a good factory motor like the H22A (and you keep it NA), as long as you feed it good oil, gas, filters, spark plugs, correct timing and so on... it will keep you happy. Very low-maintenance in my opinion.

On the other hand... let's say I had 3k to spend on a turbo setup/F22B swap. Sure, I would start buying parts, but I'd end up spending well over 3k before it's complete. It's not just a one-time cost either...things will break, and without a doubt you will be buying more parts more frequently. At the very least, there is a higher chance of needing to do so. Plus, you bring up the idea of internals...right there, when the idea of cracking open the block comes up, that's a whole different ballgame. If you're going to build a motor, DO IT RIGHT. IT IS NOT worth it just to get a few better parts because of monetary constraints, when there's still alot to be done. Turbo or not, fine. As for your motor, if you build it, do it properly.

Another very important point you mention is that this car is your only car and it needs to be very dependable. For someone like you, you should do one of two things. H22A swap (reliable without a doubt) or, pick up a beater car in case you have downtime with your turbo setup. There have been some really problem-free turbo setups within the last year or two, and some others have taken an engine with them. Even with good tuning, the reality is you're force-feeding an engine not factory-designed for it (and with $3k I wouldn't even attempt to build/boost) and this is not good for your only car.

Take it from me, a guy who prefers boost, when I tell you to stick with NA this time around...unless of course, you find more cash, and get yourself a backup car (or you have AAA and can deal with downtime).

Accord R33 had a VERY cheap setup on a VERY old motor... and it was quite reliable.

However, he knew it inside and out. He designed that system himself. He tuned the ECU himself. He put everything together, and understood it all completely.

If you're looking for other people to tell you what you should do, you definitely don't have that level of knowledge or dedication.

H22 is for you. I'm much the same way... scatterbrained, indecisive, and I'm not always under my hood. I have a stock motor that happens to make 200hp It's not a rocket, but compared to stock, it's very nice!

This is exactly what more people need to understand

Damn Dr. If only everyone on this site was like you. Instead of yelling at me, explain to me why you think that...

I just want to thank you for taking the time and writing all of that for me. It made a shit load of sense. Changed my mind completely and knocked some sense into me. $3gs may sound like alot (to some haha), but in terms of building a turbo'd motor, thats nothing.

Thanks to everyone else too! H22 it is...

I FINALLY MADE UP MY MIND...hahahahahahahha...You dont know how good this feels. Its been 3 weeks of decision making and this is it.

                            fewww...Love my Cb7 family
